This little hack will drop Firefox’s RAM usage down to 10 Mb when minimized:

    1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
    2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
    3. In the box that pops up enter “config.trim_on_minimize”. Press Enter.
    4. Now select True and then press Enter.
    5. Restart Firefox.

Works for me,give it a try :thumb:

    Nice one Boost

Have just set this up and it certainly does seem to work. :thumb:

I tend to keep about three tabs open (including Wilders ;) ) which was consuming some 100Mb when minimised without the tweak. With the tweask that goes down to 5MB...with so far no discernible ill effects and not effect in terms of slow down when maximising.

    Cheers :D

I know what you mean. For me with the “config.trim_on_minimize” enabled it only reduces mem for a very short time. I can open up task manager, minimize Firefox and watch the process in task manager drop really low but it quickly rises back to where it was even though Firefox is still minimized.

I don't know how anyone can use firefox and not get upset with the massive memory leak. Thats without the addons. Wiith the addons its worse. Especially if they were written wrong they make it leak even more.

I know there is a script if you use greasemonkey which is supposed to speed things up.
I did not tryed any of the methods becouse the only time when firefox is kind of slow for me is at cold starts.
All the persons that i know and use the above script told me it makes browsing faster.

What I find interesting about the original tip is that if I minimise FF 3.0 the usage is redued to a great extent but not to its lowest. If I maximise the applciation again and then immediately minimise it again the usgage goes down to around 7k. Seems to happen every time. o_O

But a small price to pay for getting it reduced right down.
