So last update was March 10, 2016 (not October 3 as some date formats would indicate), and the last post from the developer appears to be May 6, when he expected to be back before too long. I like TinyWall, and it's a little concerning to me. I hope Ultim has a better new year if things aren't worked out already. I hope we hear from him and that all his projects are successful.
HELLO.. Hello.. hello.. Been using this for the last month and loving it.. would also like to know if development is dead.. hope not!
I can not install this on latest insider build. had it installed and uninstalled it, then tried to install it again and it just hangs.
I just checked again today. I should have kept the old exe because I can install any other program just fine. I tried a could other ones yesterday but just don't like them as well. as Tinywall. It is so simple to use.
just decided to download and try install again. this time the file got flagged by cylance and malwarebytes. I dowbloaded the file from TechRadar. so stay clear of that site.
I'm slowly hacking away at the new major version... Meanwhile, TinyWall's website has been migrated to a more powerful server, but it has been brought to my attention that at the same time I broke automatic updates. This has been corrected and updates are working again. Though there is no new program version ATM, but the same functionality was used to keep the hosts file up-to-date, so this is still important that it is now repaired.
I am having the windows update broken problem too now. are you saying there is a new version of TinyWall?
Not Windows Update broken. Only TinyWall wasn't able to check for its own update since 2-3 weeks. I am saying it is fixed now, which means you will again get new hosts files, even though there is no new version of TinyWall yet.
Good news! It is a great program! Are you looking into multi user functionality? Would be great if windows did not require admin access. I think it has to do with the hosts file being changed.
Nope- Windows 7. Just one of my computers so far. I'm pretty stoopid when it comes to firewalls but all seems to be fine right now.
What do you mean by multi user functionality? TinyWall can already be used by multiple users without admin access. To be specific, if you don't want multi user functionality in TinyWall, you need to disable it explicitly by setting a password.
@ultim Well, I have a problem where if a normal user logs in TinyWall asks for admin password (UAC). If it doesn't get it, all network access is denied. I think that my hosts file might be changed by 3rd party program and that TinyWall needs admin priv to change it back?
I don't think that's the problem. TinyWall's main service runs in the background and it doesn't use the credentials of the currently logged in user. When TinyWall asks for UAC permissions it is usually a sign that the service is not running and TinyWall is trying to repair itself (e.g. make autostart entries, start the service and others it depends on etc.) I can only guess, but I would look around and see that none of the service TinyWall needs are disabled, maybe check compatibilty with HIPS software installed on your computer.
Up until my latest insider update I was able to use Tiny just fine now Windows won't allow the service to start and can't start it manualy. Might have to finly move on.
