TI 9.0 Demo Use -- What are the Rules? Please tell us!

Have been trying to install True Image 9.0 Build 2323 demo for a few days now, and getting this long error msg (see below), whether I run the saved file, or run the extracted AcronisTrueImage.msi file, or select Run from the website. After a dozen tries, at least, I'm still where I was on day one.

Is it because I had previously installed a demo file and the TI installer recognized it? What are the rules governing the use of demo versions? I appreciate having the option, but only if I can actually use it. If I'm no longer granted the privilege, why not say so up front?

Other users have commented on not being able to download demo files, and then being provided a direct link to a working version. It sure seems like there might be a problem there that's worth fixing: why offer something that is not properly delivered?

And why not replying to email sent directly to the Acronis support team via this forumo_O

    Thanks!

    ---------------------
    Error message text:

"This adversised application wil not be installed because it might be unsafe. Contact your administrator to change the installation user interface option of the package to basic."

This error message window says "Acronis True Image" on top. I am the Admin, and the system does not have installation restrictions -- other programs install just fine...

Try searching the Registry for any lines with the name True Image or Acronis, and deleting them, then try the install again.

Disclaimer: one wrong move when editing the registry and you may make your system unbootable. Be sure you know what you are doing.

Re: TI 9.0 Demo Use -- What are the Rules? And Removal Help, Please...

Thanks for your reply! I already did this, following the detailed instructions provided on one of the forum discussion strings, and was able to remove all but ONE bit, the Acronis key...

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Acronis\]

    and the Scheduler subkey.

No matter what I do, I can't delete the bugger, even though I have full permissions, including for this key. So far, I've tried the following:

    1. Regedit, delete
    2. importing a .Reg file with the key preceded by a minus sign
    3. Running a batch file (from a safe boot) which runs a .reg file with the key preceded by a minus sign, as shown below:

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Acronis\]

Seems like lots of work, no? Unfortunately, Acronis support team has yet to respond to my several inquiries, including a direct email request. The funny thing is, I'm totally willing to pay for it, but not sure yet that it's worth all this trouble -- much as I like the program features.

Any further suggestions would be much appreciated.

THANKS and a Happy New Year!

Would Regedit work in Safe Mode and work on those two items?

I just tried that, but got the same error message as before: "Cannot delete Acronis: Error while deleting key."

It is possible that some elements of the scheduler are hiding somewhere, and cause the system to disallow the delete but, if so, I sure don't know what file names I should be looking for -- and, again, would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks!

    Hello GetItDone,

A couple of things you could try:

    1. Right click on "My Computer", select "Manage" > "Services and Applications" > "Services" and then see if the "Acronis Scheduler2 Service" is still running. If it is, right click on it and select "Stop". Now run regedit again and try deleting the recalcitrant registry key.

    2. Run regedit and navigate to the offending reg key. Right click on it, select "Permissions" and ensure the "Full Control" tickbox is checked. Click the "Advanced" button and then check the tickbox named "Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects". Close down the dialogue boxes and then try deleting the reg key.

    Regards

Thanks Menorcaman! I've done most of what you suggested already, except for the changing the inherited permissions -- and that fixed the problem of removing the program key.

Now without an Acronis program key, the problem of not being able to install TI 9.0 build 2323 remains. The installer comes back with the error message (see bottom) in a fraction of a second. I downloaded several copies, they all behave this way.

Perhaps it's time for the Acronis support team to comment on this thread...

    Thanks again!

Still having installation problems when trying to install the TI 9.0 build 2323 demo and getting this long scary error msg., whether I Run the saved file, or Run the extracted AcronisTrueImage.msi file.

This remains a problem even after receiving from TI Support the link to the no-registration-necessary demo file. No help from TI Support on solving this problem or, for that matter, on the meaning of this weird and most unhelpful 'error message.'

This is my third post on this or related problem. So far, it seems that support service is lagging. Not a good sign.

Most recent post on the problem:

    Hello GetItDone,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please accept my apologies for the delay with the response.

First of all, please try to install the latest build (2337) of Acronis True Image 9.0 which is available at: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/updates/

To get access to updates you should create an account at:
    http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/my/
then log in and use your serial number to register your software.

If the problem still persists with the latest build (2337) of Acronis True Image 9.0 then please follow the instructions I have provided in my last Private Message.

    Thank you.
