    Hello @FanJ

In its simplest form, perhaps the user would now utilize TB's default search engine for a definition/translation of a word/abbreviation/phrase from the received email. Do you fear possible malware proliferation? Abuse? Pointless feature creep?

    Hi 1PW,
That should not be the job of an email client. In the cases you mentioned (for a definition/translation of a word/abbreviation/phrase from the received email) users can copy it into their browser and go from there, if they wish to do so. An email client is not a browser! And yes, some kind of pointless feature creep.
I go some steps further: an email client should not be phoning home, even for checking for updates/upgrades. Never. And even one step further: all emails should be only in plain text; period.

I agree an email client doesn't need a search engine.
But there's a search engine in Thunderbird since a long time. I doubt there's much zeal to change that, even if we don't like a search engine in our email client.

Thunderbird & no email associated to perform action error

Let's dabble in the arcane, shall we. To wit, an article showing how to fix the email program association error in Thunderbird following a major release upgrade, including reinstall, file type and protocol association, application defaults, and more. Enjoy.

Does anyone know if the Lightning calendar addon is available for Thunderbird 91.x and if so how to get it? It doesn't show up on the "get addons" list.

The calendar is fully integrated in Thunderbird. IMO, this has been the case since v. 78.x.
