I just purchased this package today based on the outside packaging stating that it backs up to DVD directly. I quickly discovered that True Image really doesnt backup to DVD based on my attempt and failure to do so and reading the forum threads.

I am not interested in jumping through hoops or doing insane workarounds to make this product work - it either writes native to DVD or its doesn't - and believe me it doesn't.

(snipped - Blue) I am retuning it to the local Costco and getting a refund ASAP. In addition I am filing a complaint with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs that deals with (snipped - Blue) products like this.

What a waste of time .....

    Hi there:)

Don't you think that you should maybe give Acronis Technical support a chance to respond to your problem first? There might be a straightforward solution. Have you got a recent product build?.........Howard

If anyone wishes to intelligently post on DVD backup with Acronis TI without gratuitous comments or irrelevant posts, that is fine.

An irrelevant post by an anonymous poster not adding to either post above has been removed and the thread will be closed if they continue.

dew542512, I just wrote an image to DVD+RW, direct from TI. Didn't you read the manual before you bought the prog?

I have never been able to burn to my dvd because acronus just cant do it without third party software. Its my opinion they shouldnt advertise that truimage can do it if it cant. I can burn to cd okay but not to dvd. And I wouldnt try to anything with 859 because its very defective. Only with 826.

    Hello all,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

As it is stated at our site, Acronis True Image is able to burn images to DVDs using UDF writing third-party software. Also you may create images on the hard drive and then burn them to DVDs.

    Thank you.

Ilya, does Acronis have plans to implement direct writing to DVD-R as it does to CD-R. I don't have UDF writing implemented on my system and will not implement it, for reasons not relevant here.

If Acronis does plan to implement direct writing to DVD-R, will this be as a build update to version 8, or appear in a future version?

    Thanks for any info.

    Hello nolonemo,

Thank you for your interest in Acronis Disk Backup Software.

We do plan to implement direct DVD burning, however, it is likely to be implemented in future versions rather than in an update. Currently you may create images to the hard drive splitting them into parts that can be stored to DVDs and them burn these parts with any software you wish.

    Thank you.

Ilya can you do the same thing with cd's? Make the files to hard drive and then burn to cd later and they restore okay when you click restore image?

    Hello Donprovo,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Yes, you can create image archives on local or network hard drives specifying the image archive split size and burn them to CD.

    Thank you.
