    Hi, all.
I just had this interesting discussion with my wife, which means I lost automatically.
But it was interesting because I really couldn't answer her question.

I like DW, GW, Avira Premium and many others.
    Her question was this.
If we set up her pc with only one 'paid' version of security software, would it be more important to have the extra stuff that would come with a paid anti virus or would it be better to put the money into something like DW or GW?

I never thought about this before and didn't know what to tell her.
    What's your opinion?
    Thanks.

remember that DefenseWall or GeSWall complament any antivirus/antispyware
and if you have 2 layer when one fails to protect you you will get a extra layer,so you could tell your wife that is better to get a layer aproach to be extra protected.my wife also told when a used Zone Alarm security suit
she ask if zone alarm was enough to protect our pc and i said no:D
so i got DefenseWall for the peace of mine.

I can tell you now, there are quite a few here that used the paid version of Geswall and are amazed how nothing gets through. And they know what they are talking about. Worth every penny.

    Hi Hugger

I would tell her she's better off with a free AV, a firewall and something like GW,DW or Sandboxie paid.

My justification would be if sandboxie say is set up right and say she clicks on a bad email, and the AV misses, so what. She's protected. That is the justification in my book.

    Pete

PS. If she's smart enough to ask she could learn any of them.

well if you want to go cheap but as good as anything offered here, use Geswall free for your browser and add Avira free to cover email. Bet it is as secure and all the others.

Hugger either ThreatFire free with GesWall paid or Rising AV + HIPS with DefenseWall paid will problably provide best protection (just to mention a combo). Easiest combo would be TF + DW/GW just try what suites your best.

    This is what I use

    1.zonealarm firewall
    2.avg free antivirus
    3.firefox browser
4.returnil free (only engaged it when on the internet).

I haven't had any virus/spyware problems in over a year. All antispyware software will slow you down. The last one I had webroot spyware sweeper slow me down too much, when I removed it my computer sped up like magic. Returnil does a great job in protecting your entire c: partition not just indidvidual programs and it won't slow down you internet browsing.

Also getting rid of internet explorer as your browser will prevent 90 percent of your virus/spyware problems. But if you have have "returnil" it doesn't really matter what browser you use since nothing that occurs when it's engaged will remain after you reboot. A virus attack to the registry will not survive the reboot.

The less software you have protecting your computer the faster it will be.
