    Oh man! I was hoping this thread was going to answer that question. :doubt:

    A very misleading thread title you got there. :p

    What sites are you refering to HandsOff?

    ~Without Know the particulars I'd say they don't - They simply foot the bill~

    Much like Wilders' ... where Paul & Mike graciously pay the way. :)

    How do they make money? They earn it themselves or their users donate to them I guess...
    www.powerpets.com is a site with absolutely no advertising and they survive entirely from users' money donations.

    "A very misleading thread title you got there. "
    - Only to the extent that the question remains unanswered

    "What sites are you refering to HandsOff?"
    - As long as they are free, have no advertizing, and generate revenue I am willing to hear how they do it.

    "...and they survive entirely from users' money donations."
    - as far as know you are correct. That's one way.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    I was expecting something a little more obscure...

    maybe, they obtains some sort of metrics, possible the number of hits itself as an idicator of consumer interest. Sort of an undeclared poll...

    I heard the phrase please use our search engine because we need the bandwidth. Is that just poorly worded?

    Related, their is the issue called "stealing bandwidth". I can guess what it means. Surely that is a way of making money on a free site with no ads. Not an ethical one, or one that I endorse.

    Placing tracking cookies or spyware is not what I am after...

    maintaining "related links" referals. You could say the are ads, but I don't think most of the people who use them think of them that way, therefore money generated by referals would count in my book.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    That's just the tip of the iceberg (?)

    Maybe they ask questions like this and people go buy aspirin cuz they get headaches, and then the price of asprin stock goes up and then they sell their stock! Naaaw............

    Personally, I happen to like dogs. I have three of them. Meet Sonia, an American Staffordshire Terrier:
