    What, so the ultrasound is loud enough to cut mic gain enough to put audible frequencies down in the noise?

    That's a pretty cool exploit on the wide frequency response of smartphone mics :)

    Analogous to those cross-device tracking apps, which use ultrasound carriers for data.

    This might be louder, though. And children can hear some "ultrasonic" frequencies. Plus various pets, of course.

    And I vaguely recall that loud ultrasound can basically make people nervous, or maybe cause headaches, even if they can't hear it.

    So there could be problems.

    But altogether, a very cool thing!

    My wife makes jewelry, so maybe this could be a popular line for her :)

    If this prototype is working that well now, it could become a game changer as the device becomes smaller and more effective.
