Sadly, I fear that fake identities will use other peoples' real pictures because that will spread chaff, given that the social media companies and LE are being so reckless about face reco. Not very nice for the "mug". Literally.

A lot of them seem strange. Especially issues about hair. And inconsistency regarding wrinkling and wrinkle patterns.

Yes, some of them look like burn victims.

Yeah, this is cool. Another source of faces for personas :)

Although, actually, it's better to generate locally.

I wonder if you could generate a face, based on your own, that was different enough to be ~unrecognizable, yet similar enough to emulate with makeup.

The technology that's "irresponsible and needs to be restricted immediately" is in fact the use of facial biometrics by authentication and identity systems, and by uncontrolled AFR surveillance. Why should you accept an unreliable, vastly intrusive and scammable biometric (non-repudiation) system which is also disastrous for privacy?

Face recognition is a crock, yet this paper is attacking the symptoms.

I find them useful for avatar photos because (1) they're not misusing a real person's photo, (2) they're created on the fly so they should be unique, and (3) they protect my privacy from face-recognition scanning by companies like Facebook.
