    Hi all,

This is a very helpful forum! Since I've read so much about the Recovery CD not necessarily supporting any particular USB 2.0 external HDD, is there any easy way to identify whiat the USB 2.0 chipset's number is on one's motherboard? Then a person would have some direction to go from?

    Thanks for any info.

I'd check the MB manufacturer's website myself. I believe the product details there should reveal what kind of USB 2.0 controller is on the MB. Or you could use a utility like System Information Viewer which will provide you with plenty of system specs. I wonder if some of these USB 2.0 compatibility problems don't also involve the on board components of the EXT HDD? I've been lucky recently with two Seagates (80G/160G).
    - My Specs -
    Northbridge: Intel 975X Express Chipset
    Gigabyte GA-G1975X MB
    USB 2.0 Controller = 82801G (ICH7 Intel Family)
