How is SD on windows 8 64bit? Is it stable? Any BSODs? Slowdowns? Considering buying a license but I need to know it works well.

Matt, I know you are asking about SD in W8 specifically, I don't use W8 but in my W7 and XP, SD works great. No slowdown, no BSOD and stable. I feel it works better in my W7 than in XP, my guess is that probably works just fine in W8.

Can anyone truly say that the new SD version is safe on SSD's?

    TIA,

It definitely works well with SSDs and it also allows full TRIM functionality.

    @Patrick:

MBAM started blocking the new SD forum again... Try to e-mail them again Patrick, hopefully they'll whitelist it for good this time.

Hi CM thanks for the update
I didn't get a reply from them the last time I reported it but I will try them again. I don't know why they are doing this...there is nothing harmful on the forum...no downloads...no attachments...no executables I backup the whole forum to my own pc nearly every night, plus database seperately.
I've just scanned (8 may 2013) with on demand Malwarebytes Anti Malware Pro with latest defs, (on my pc) all of the backed up full forums and the databases from the beginning to the present day and they are all clean. I don't even carry an advert for the hosting site on the forum. I would ask that anyone who has this problem drop an email to Malwarebytes too. Thanks

Thanks aladdin, I noticed that you had registered :)
I know the questions seem silly but they are very effective against spam and an admin can change them at any time or even extend them. This might become necessary, if (for example) someone revealed the answers to your questions on an open forum ;)

I do a lot of downloading. I transfer all of it over to an external hard drive.

Yes if you exit from shadow mode with saving changes.

No, you probably just use the Exit All Show Modes button. If you tick the box of any single drive currently in Shadow Mode, then the Exit Shadow Mode button would also become available. You press it, and it'll ask you to commit or not.

That depends on what you are trying to accomplish. As ichito suggested, that can be done with Mode Setting by checking the Windows volume, clicking the Exit Shadow Mode button and in the ensuing popup window, select Commit All Changes. Doing this will obviously make your software installation 'permanent'.

However, Shadow Defender does not accommodate testing software which requires a reboot to complete its installation. In other words rebooting software that was installed inside Shadow Mode and then rebooting without committing all changes, hoping to have that software installation survive only in Shadow Mode. If this is your goal, it is not doable.

I have found an incompatibility between SD and the secure desktop feature of KeePass. I get an instant BSOD related to a kernel failure when I launch KeePass with secure desktop activated. My OS: XP 32 SP3

I'm not a gamer, but the general answer is that you have to determine the folder in which the data (changes) are kept. Then you simply exclude that folder in SD.

I think that what we have to remember is that an installed program is more than just a bunch of files in folders, it's probably more complex than some of us might think, there is (for example) the registry and all it's relationships to take into consideration. I think that is why Tony (after some consideration) had to change his mind and backed off the implementation of the "apps that require re-boot from Shadow Mode" promised changes for Shadow Defender.

If Tony is going to create a SD version that virtualizes the entire OS, does anyone know when that will be available? Will this prevent all malware from circumventing?

I also saw some mention of Sandboxie. I use sandboxie but I have not configured anything. So should I go into Settings, Restrictions, and check Drop Rights?
