Yes, SD is still in business, at least insofar as selling lifetime licenses (via Avangate), however technical support by the developer is non-existent (this forum is about the best place for that). As you have observed, the 'current' version (v1.5.0.726) is almost 3 years old, nevertheless it continues to work very well in Windows 10/11.

 

Thank you. I investigated Reboot Restore Rx Pro and it was more complicated than Shadow Defender and not nearly as flexible.

 

OK. So I have another problem. Shadow Defender is on my personal laptop. I am about to replace the laptop with a new laptop. I want to uninstall SD & install it on my new laptop. I have lost my license key. I emailed support at SD only to be informed the mailbox is full. Belarc does not find the license key though it does list SD as an installed program. Any suggestions?

Try Faronics program - Deep Freeze.

 

Find user.dat in the Installed directory and open it with notepad, you will see the sn.

 

Way too expensive and not nearly as versatile as SD.

 

I do not believe the serial number is revealed in user.dat.

 

You might try emailing support@avangate.com

 

The program key is stored in the registry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{78C3F4BC-C7BC-48E4-AD72-2DD16F6704A9} Save this registry branch, and add it to the registry after installing SD on the new computer.

I have a Lifetime license for Shadow Defender but have been happy with DeepFreeze.

 

for me, i stopped installing and thus using SD for a while. it made me check out about program installations where sandboxie is not able, thats all. at least SD is not able to stop malware while running an OS, only after restart which has lost focus for some users. regular backups are more important. admitted, if you trial a lot it helps you out where sandboxie fails. my latest installation was on win8, win11/11 did not see it. i assume that SD has another targeted group of users than the settled or experienced.

That program only works on Microsoft product keys.

Hey, THANKS! I contacted them and they sent me my serial #. I appreciate your advice!! I bought SD in 2017.

 

That's weird I tried and there's data in there but no serial number.

 

The closest and only alternative to Toolwiz Time Freeze.

There the serial was visible in the old-ish versions, then the serial began to be written to the registry in encrypted form.

 

...like I said in #6626, the 'business-side' of SD is alive & well ...and (so far) SD still works as intended throughout Windows ongoing development.

 

will shadow defender works with windows 10 bit locker turned on?

 

@suta, although I have no personal experience using SD in a Bitlocker environment, other users have reported that SD does work with Bitlocker enabled. You could backup your system and then try it yourself.

 

Anyone else having problem with SD after the latest Windows update for W11 Home?I get diskpt.sys blue screen when the pc tries to start with SD installed.
