And for malware, as malexous said it is blocked by IPS when toolbar is disabled, but even in that case website couldn't be displayed (connection failed).
Yuki is right, IPS gets it anyway. Norton IPS is quite strong, I have been saying that for some time now. To be safe, I think I will enable toolbar on my machines, it can't hurt.
My question is in the far past..2013 Norton IS let in a Trojan that Kaspersky and Malwarebytes caught and my daughter got a virus which totally dis-abled here computer..Is 2015 IS better?
Of course it is. Also, that Trojan wouldn't stand a change against the reputation/insight systems in Norton now. Norton is a really strong layered approach these days, between all of the engines, cloud, IPS, Reputation/Insight, and Sonar. A threat has to pass through a pretty substantial array. You can try it, and put it on a VM and try to infect it in realtime, and see how difficult this is.
@Mayahana: is Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.5 offering the same engines and protection as Norton 2015? i could switch to SEP since my company could provide me a subscription. currently i use Bitdefender Free.
SEP works in unmanaged mode for desktop, but I like Norton 2015 better due to interface, and other things. SEP can be a pita if you don't spend the time configuring it carefully.
DSCHRADER from Norton who used to post here years ago stated: "The 12.1 products are based on the same security technology as are the Norton products." Apparently the SEP 11.x products were different. At least some of the signatures are the same.. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Signatures-Updates/Norton-AntiVirus-Virus-Definitions.shtml Recently when Norton sent out borked up signatures, they affected both Norton and SEP products.
I have used SEP in client mode in a few years. What I remember is configuring firewall rules were a nightmare. In NIS, much much easier.
Back to Norton. Told you .. Norton 2015 is very nearly the perfect solution.. Trend is coming closer, especially with the patch this week improving performance. But Norton 2015 is SOLID. I gave up looking for anything else, it's those two for me.. (either or) But since you have Trend on your router, Norton is a killer combo!
True man, tried every security suite/AV extensively 3 days each. Somehow, I liked my system's performance the most with Norton Security, it was the lightest on my system out of the lot. Had Trend Micro had a better licensing system (for my needs) as in, one license for all your household devices, AN D if I got a confirmation that they fixed their slowdown of Firefox when opening 10+ tabs while their browser add-ons are installed, that would've been my first choice definitely. But I chose Norton here since I've tested it and know it's good both protection and performance wise and with my Trend Micro AV in the router, as you said, this is a killer combo with the least system impact. I am really looking forward to Trend Micro Antivirus+ Security 2016, they are almost there (near perfection) Runner ups in my experience would be Avira AV Pro although believe it or not, the fact that their webmasters cannot even get a change log right in time or the right version number for what you're currently downloading turned me off. I know, sounds crazy, but I like professionalism and this is not a slip off, been like this for more than 6 months now, 0 quality control. Next runner up for me would be KAV. I hope NOD32 gets better in 2016 they haven't had an update for their AV/ESS for more than 6 months as well despite the many complaints submitted by me and others.
Be aware though, NS / NSwB aren't available in all regions yet. https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us...ent/solutions/v102725646_EndUserProfile_en_us
Why bro? According to my testing on multiple machines and Mayhana's, it is one of the better ones, light and great security. This only comes to fortify my claims: AV-Comparatives - Real World Tests What are your concerns? I am interested in your opinion and zfactor's on NS as he also says it's good, but not his cup of tea.
Norton 2015 has very strong reputation, and even stronger IPS. It's solid security, no question about that.
It just caught something that no other AV has caught before!! wow, very impressed by its Sonar protection:
Norton is good stuff. The beauty of Norton is how polished their products are... there are multiple choices of very good products. But most are not as smooth as Symantec/Norton.
