The straight dope on *nix vs. Windows 7 Security

    old school rocks lol I use the cmd prompt if I want to navigate to a folder in windows. I can get there quicker than one with a mouse can

    Classic Macs aren't Unix-based though.

    *nix security varies too much to be directly compared with Windows 7 in my opinion. Unless we're talking about Ubuntu Linux.

    The OP needs to clarify on what he's looking for.

    This is a "linux kernel 2.6.38.8 econet infoleak to the network", I see. o_O How would an attacker use that? Would they need shell access? Would visiting an evil website be enough?

    I use Windows 7 and Ubuntu Lucid. There's a NAT router, with no open ports. I don't click on ads, and I only install apps from known sources.

    I've assumed that I'm safe, using either OS, as long as I don't run malware. Is that foolish? Is one or the other OS better at blocking rights escalation?
