The new Secunia PSI 3.0 beta has arrived!

At Secunia, we are on a constant mission to make PCs safe worldwide. We are already on a roll helping more than 4.8 million security-aware users to stay secure. However, we want to reach ALL users. This is why we encourage regular patching of programs by offering a valuable free resource that simplifies the patching process – the Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI).

However, we always want to go the extra mile. Which is why we asked ourselves the question: “Despite being a great product, is the Secunia PSI still too technical for less technically confident users?” Also, “Would your grandparents, or mum or dad, be able to use it easily?”

Because we want to change the face of home PC security as we know it, we decided to invest dedicated time and resources into re-evaluating the Secunia PSI and taking it to the next level…to streamline its functionality and usability as much as possible…to make this great product even greater.

It therefore gives me great pleasure to introduce to you the new Secunia PSI 3.0 (currently in public beta).

i see what you mean way to dumbed down. guess that probably means they only check the drive the os is running on to.

In a blog post accompanying this beta release, Secunia said it wanted to offer a new version that answered the question, “Would your grandparents, or mum or dad, be able to use it easily?” I’d have to agree that this version has a decent chance of succeeding on that front. But assuming that this beta will morph into a standard offering, I hope that Secunia continues to offer two versions of this useful free product: a speedier, more reliable version of the geek-friendly traditional PSI program, and the “light” version for all of our non-geek friends and family.

Security firm Secunia expects a reaction from vendors as it plans to repackage security updates for hundreds of applications into its own proprietary installer and deliver them through the new version of Personal Software Inspector (PSI).

I completely agree with their stance towards vendors who decide add toolbars and other crap with new versions. I'll give this beta a shot.
