I am going to play devils advocate. Assuming your not in the business, what difference does the answer make.

I quit the test on the 2nd question, because I don't really care what the malware is called. All I care about is keeping it off my computer. That's what I want in a setup, and I feel mine does the job.

    9/10, didn't get smishing

but its definition is phishing anyway, so I stand by my original choice even if the test says no :p

Agreed. After three questions I quit the test too, for the same reason. Malware is still malware, no matter what the sub-category is called.

A true IQ test would be to ask the visitors; how do you prevent this and that scenario from happening?

Different malware has different ways of attacking and this test is a heads up on some of the techniques used,
Malware is not "just" malware or we would not have the many different names for it.

    Take mathematics as an example.
Mathematics has several different areas etc.
To say mathematics just consists of algebra would be ludicrous.

If we can learn the different distinguishing characteristics of malware then you question of how to prevent these infections will be acted upon far easily.

I understand your point, and of course the type of malware infecting you is important if you want to cure your computer...

But true IQ measurement would be how you prevent the type of threat. Meaning, measuring your skills in solution when it comes to malware. High IQ just because you know a type of threats' name is no true measurement.

Of course, the IQ test in this thread should be taken with a grain of salt. :) I just completed it and score 8 out of 10. I failed on the one with the weird name. :)

    10 out of 10. 100%.

Gee, I'm good. The last one was a guess. I've never heard of Smishing before. But I knew it was from a text message, and another question related to phishing...and smishing is similar to phishing so...logical lucky guess.

    Later...

Quite a nice vocabulary quiz. If one knows how to protect one's electronic devices by using them safely and not being deceived by miscreants then the actual terms are not essential. Yes, a test of how to proceed in certain test scenarios would be very beneficial.

It tests based on whether you know what the security terms mean. I'm not sure it befits the 'security IQ' title but whatever....

Don't you guys notice that once you past a few questions, the answers have similar options? Chances are you'd not pick the same answer which you've already picked for a prev question. That makes it even easier to pick the right answer.

I think this test was really about educating people on how malware could spread. While stopping it is of course more important than knowing the terms, a lot of people probably aren't aware of the myriad ways in which it could get on their computers.
