I think it was a Microsoft download problem. It happened in 2 computers and 3 OS.

adksetup.exe still doesn't work. Does it work for you?

Yes, I've updated all my computers with it except one very old Windows 10 computer that's still using v10.1.19041.1. The old girl doesn't like the newer Windows PE versions.

    I downloaded and installed a W11 24H2 ISO.
adksetup.exe doesn't work in that OS either. That's 4 OS where it fails.

I'm just testing it for you now. Yes, it's working.

Find the reference to this cab file. I think that'll be your answer.

    Thanks for trying it.

2 computers and 4 OS. I've lost interest.

Edit... d562ae79e25b943d03fc6aa7a65f9b81 not found in the registry or the computer.

Yeah, this program is probably the best overall in the area of disk imaging. I purchased IFW almost 20 years ago when I was still in graduate school (back then it's all command line version with an interface very much similar to CloneZilla). I upgraded to every major version just to support the developer, as I know he's only a small business and needs support from his customers.
For v4, I would think he probably upgraded the compression algorithm since looks like the image format changed. Which is good. So far, the best compression ratio and speed is still from Acronis, with IFW and R-Drive Image slightly lagging behind.

I read someone mentioned in the other Terabyte thread that v4 image format is not compatible with v3 so I guessed so.

Strange, I did a diff backup of my OS partition a few days ago having a previous full image made with V3 and V4 didn't complain or warn me anything though.

    Thanks for the info!
haha looks like I may need to test it out later. But sounds like v4 indeed is backward compatible with images made with IFW v3; this may not be true the other way around. Would be great if someone would test it if they have both v3 and v4 installed.

Thank you Brian! So this is a typical "backward compatible" scenario :)

Apparently, version 4.01 of Terabyte's IFW/IFL was released yesterday. It's a very vague changelog, which makes me wonder why they even bother

    • Version 4.01 – June 12, 2024
    • TBWinPE/RE Builder – Various enhancements and fixes.
    • Other potential changes, updates and enhancements.

I wonder if the update has something to do with the winre.wim copies that I found in the following location since upgrading to version 4.
%ProgramFiles(x86)%\TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite\tbwinre\WinRE_Backup

There were about 4 different versions on at least three of my computers. They had been renamed. I wish I had taken a screenshot now, but I deleted them.

I put the tbwinre folder in the D:\ drive and only use it once but I understand what you are describing. Weird.

Image for * 4.02a was released today and, as always, the changelog is not at all helpful.

    • NOTE: Binary version information of imagew.exe / imagew64.exe should be 4.02a (4.02 was only available for a few hours – VSS won’t start on that version.)
    • Fills in default virtual drive size on creation when source drive known.
    • Detect Non-Microsoft VSS providers if VSS fails to start.
    • TBWinPE/RE Builder – Various enhancements and fixes.
    • Other potential changes, updates and enhancements.

The BootIt Collection is still displaying V2.01 even though the new version is supposed to be V2.02.

Wow! BootIt UEFI is already such a great tool.
Does PartWork for Windows duplicate the same partition functionality as BootIt UEFI, but in situ ... ?

Also - what happened to @puff-m-d's new release announcements? :doubt:

Almost identical functionality. The only difference I've noted is in resizing the C:\ drive. The drive is locked in booted Windows and you can't resize it as small as you can in BIU.

Say you had a 100 GiB Windows partition with 40 GiB of files. PartWork for Windows might be able to resize the partition to 60 GiB. BIU could resize the partition to 40 GiB.
