Have they removed from IFL the restore option "restore changed sectors only"?

    Panagiotis,

It's not present in Options if the target SSD doesn't support Deterministic TRIM.

Hi Brian. How does IFL verifies it?
All crucial mx series ssd's support Deterministic Trim.
(I only tested in one system with an mx500 512gb firmware M3CR023)
BIBM V1.53 can trim the drive and IFD can restore with "changed sectors only" option.
BIU V1.05 has trim disabled but IFUEFI can restore with "changed sectors only" option.
IFL V3.25 can trim it (in the partition manager) but has the "changed sectors only" removed.

    Panagiotis,

Standby. I have a question to TeraByte at the moment. I have one SSD (SanDisk) that doesn't support Deterministic Trim. Restore Changed Sectors Only isn't present in IFL or IFW but is present in BIU.

    I stand corrected.
Crucial MX500 does not support "Deterministic Trim". Is the first crucial drive that I regret buying :(

edit: what confuses me is why the "changes sectors only restore" should be related with deterministic trim? Hdds do not support trim commands but "changes sectors only restore" works fine.

    Thanks for that info.

TeraByte's answer to my question was...

"If it can't talk to the drive because UEFI doesn't have the feature set needed, then it will default to thinking it's a normal drive."

I'm guessing the same applies to IFD in BIBM.

You're welcome. (Now, I wonder is the Samsung Evo 860 that I added in my nieces laptop, supports drat and rzat).

Question: will there be any ill effects if we restore "Changed Sectors Only" on such drives? If not is there a force enable switch that we can use?

I think if that setting appears (such as with a hard drive) and you don't have a SSD that supports it, then Changed Sectors Only is ignored. So OK to have it selected.

I just checked and you are correct. It just ignores my global setting
    Code:
    [RESTORE_DEFAULTS];WriteChangedSecsOnly=1
and does not apply the option --wco at the command line.... and neither allows me to edit the command line.

I used to be e big fan of TeraByteUnlimited because of the customization/control over the options...
They want to make it user friendly? Fine I'm all for that. But hiding/force disabling and overriding global options?:confused::thumbd:
If that option gave problems on some old ssds, they could just add an option to compare the image's sectors, with the partition's sectors after the restore... (If it fails give a warning to deactivate it and perform a full all sectors restore).

Where can't you edit the command line?

In IFL gui. If I click show command it opens a new window and it only has "ok" and "save" options/buttons.
But, since it is a global override, I doubt that editing it and adding the option --wco would make a difference.

If you click Save to File you can edit the command line and save it to the scripts folder. Reboot and manually run it from Display User Scripts Menu. But I agree, it won't make a difference. --wco won't work for a hard drive.

They have disabled it for hdd's too? o_O

edit: IFD still works as the previous versions. restoring 19gb with /wco wrote less than 200mb-300mb. Time to perform some tests and chkdsk verifications.

Correction. It still applies to HDs. Not to SSDs that don't support DRAT.

    Version 2.83 - August 12, 2013
Added command line only global option /wco to have restore and copy only write changed sectors on the target (reads target and only writes changes).

    Version 2.84 - November 4, 2013
Moved /wco (WriteChangedSecsOnly) from a global option to a copy or restore specific option.

    Version 2.99-00 - February 25, 2016
Changed default for /wco (WriteChangedSecsOnly) to be disabled when unable to retrieve the required data from the drive.

    Nothing in ver 3 history.

This is a welcome update for Linux users. The issues with resizing Linux OS partitions smaller and cloning Linux OS partitions have been fixed.

How is this programs in terms of creating and restoring the backups successfully without errors or data loss compared to other backup software?

Terabyte's Backup & Restore is an excellent imaging program for backup and restore operations. It's simple manual interface works very well. Sometimes it can get a bit cryptic when trying to do things that aren't so simple, but once you learn how, it works very well.

I use it as my main backup to my backup (Macrium REFLECT).
