After capturing the U.S. television market with aggressively priced Roku TVs, China's TCL wants to replicate that success with inexpensive phones, IoT devices and connected appliances — and in the process, turn its still relatively unknown brand into a household name.

In other words: TCL wants to be the next Samsung.
It won't be easy. The phone market, TCL's next target, is firmly dominated by Apple and Samsung and hard to penetrate for newcomers.
Premium phones for $500 or less
TCL is set to officially enter the U.S. smartphone market under its own brand in the second quarter of this year.
TCL's phones, which use Google's Android operating system, are expected to offer many of the same features as other flagship phones this year.

A key differentiator: TCL will sell the 10 Pro for less than $500.

Still, there are plenty of challenges ahead for TCL.

Tv's from Philips Electronics have also been produced by a Chinese company named TP Vision since 2011. I must say they still have a good quality.

TCL — best known for its well-received and wallet-friendly TVs — announced at CES earlier this year that it would be entering the mobile phone business. And now, we’ve finally got the full details on its first three phones — the TCL 10 Pro, 10L, and 10 5G — which will all cost under $500 when they’re released in Q2 this year.

The most interesting of the three is the TCL 10 5G, which looks to fill an interesting niche as one of the first midrange 5G smartphones. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G processor, which is the chipmaker’s first chipset that features an integrated 5G modem. Rounding out the specs are a 6.53-inch LCD display, four rear cameras (at 64 megapixels, 8 megapixels, 5 megapixels, and 2 megapixels), a 4,500mAh battery, 6GB RAM, 128GB of internal storage, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Unfortunately, it’s also the phone with the least amount of availability information, with TCL only promising it’ll be here “later this year” for €399 / £399. While the company does plan to release the 10 5G in the US with an unnamed carrier partnership, there’s no word yet as to when that will be, how much it’ll cost, or even which carrier’s 5G network it’ll run on.

Lastly, there’s the $249 10L, the entry-level option, which is effectively a budget version of the 10 Pro. The 6.53-inch display is LCD, instead of OLED (although the 2340 x 1080 resolution is the same).

TCL-branded smartphones debuted in the West last year with the TCL Plex, and the company had a stellar start. In my review, I found the TCL Plex to be a great mid-ranger in terms of performance, design, cameras, and the overall experience, all while being extremely competitive in pricing.

Now, the company is ready to take a bigger step with the TCL 10 series, first announced a couple of weeks ago. It consists of the TCL 10 5G, 10 Pro, and 10 L, the former of which is coming later this year. The other two are out now, though, and I have them both in my hands.

As for the TCL 10 L, it's the most affordable member of the TCL 10 series. It downgrades the chipset to a Snapdragon 665, keeps the 6GB of RAM, and lowers the storage to 64GB on the base model - but it's eMMC storage instead of UFS 2.1. [...] It starts at €279, or $249 in the U.S.
Specs aside, the phones are almost identical, shipping with Android 10 with TCL's custom UI, which hasn't changed much since the Plex.

TCL 10 Pro and TCL 10L will get at least Android 11 and 2 years of security updates

TCL kicked off 2020 by announcing a slew of phones for a big push into the US market. The TCL 10 Pro and TCL 10L eventually launched last month as solid phones under $500.
TCL has clarified the update plans for the TCL 10 Pro and 10L.

“We can confirm both the TCL 10 Pro and TCL 10L will, at minimum, receive one major OS update as well as SMR updates every two months for 2 years.” -TCL Spokesperson
Seeing as how the TCL 10 Pro and 10L launched with Android 10, that means they will at least get Android 11. TCL does say “at minimum,” so there is the possibility that it could get Android 12 as well, though they aren’t committing to that.

We reviewed both devices and found they offer great value for mid-range phones in the US. The TCL 10L starts at only $250, which is extremely affordable for the US market. The TCL 10 Pro starts at $450 and faces much stiffer competition.

TCL’s next entry in the TCL 10 series may be a 5G phone for Europe

TCL recently launched the TCL 10 series of devices in the United States for under $500. The 10 series is TCL’s second attempt at selling self-branded smartphones after the TCL Plex. Available now are the TCL 10L and TCL 10 Pro, both of which we reviewed a few weeks ago, but the company also announced the TCL 10 5G, which is poised to be one of the cheapest 5G smartphones in the U.S. when it launches later this year.

Thanks to a new listing on Google’s Android Enterprise Solutions Directory, we’ve learned that there may be another new device in the TCL 10 series, the TCL 10 SE.
In any case, according to the filing, the TCL 10 SE has a 6.5-inch display, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and runs Android 10. It also has a fingerprint scanner and supports NFC connectivity. The filing also includes a (rather low-resolution) image which gives us a glimpse at the design of the smartphone.

The design of the TCL 10 SE does seem to be very budget-oriented, so while we aren’t sure about its pricing or chipset, it could be running something like the rumored 5G Snapdragon 6-series chip (via GSMArena) or the MediaTek Dimensity 800, although no smartphones have launched with the latter chipset outside of China yet.

TCL may have quite an interesting device in the works if they manage to keep the price really low. 5G as a technology is here to stay, and any phone helping to democratize the technology is welcome. TCL has done a great job of that with the TCL 10 5G which will be launching for around €400 very soon.

TCL debuted the TCL 10 series of smartphones earlier this year with the TCL 10 Pro and TCL 10L, plus the yet-unreleased TCL 10 5G. Today, in a presentation focused specifically on the Portuguese market, the company announced the next expansion of the TCL 10 series with the TCL 10 Plus and TCL 10 SE.

The company continues touting its "Display Greatness" slogan, and both phones feature its NXTVISION display technology, with HDR support and features such as SDR to HDR conversion.
The more interesting of the two devices is the TCL 10 Plus, which is somewhere in between the TCL 10 Pro and 10L from earlier in the year.

The TCL 10 Plus is already available in Portugal and it costs €399.99 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, or €349.99 with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The TCL 10 SE, on the other hand, is the cheapest in the company's lineup so far. It comes with a MediaTek Helio P22 chipset, making it the first TCL 10-series smartphone without a Snapdragon chipset, and it has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The battery is 4,000 mAh, and it charges at up to 15W, with reverse wired charging also supported.

TCL releases first self-branded smartphones in Australian market

Two models from the TCL Series, the TLC Pro 10 and TCL 10L, were being released for sale in Australia, the company said on Tuesday.

The third device announced in April, the TCL 10 5G, has not been released Down Under but has been launched in some other markets. In the past, TCL has launched smartphones under the Alcatel and Blackberry brands.

Both models are claimed to use the company’s broader and extensive expertise in its own proprietary display technology, NXTVISION visual technology, to provide high-resolution displays, quad rear-camera set-up and more flagship-style features including TCL’s first curved AMOLED display.

TCL unveiled a trio of smartphones in January but it waited until April to actually launch them for sale. One of the devices was TCL 10 5G with Snapdragon 765G with four cameras and two LED flashes on the back.

Now a phone called TCL 10 5G UW is arriving in the United States exclusively on Verizon, although it is not the same device - the new one has three cameras on the back with the main shooter being downgraded.
The difference between the first TCL 10 5G and this one is that Verizon enabled the phone for Ultra WIdeband networks with mmWave support.

Verizon claims the TCL 10 5G UW will offer 25x faster download speeds than regular 4G LTE networks and the coverage spans to more than 200 million customers in over 1,800 cities.
The phone will launch on October 29 for $399.99, but that price is with a new smartphone line on a select Unlimited plan. Trade-ins are also available and they can be seen on Verizon’s website once the phone arrives.

We have two new phones from TCL this week, announced at this year’s all-digital CES extravaganza. For 2021, TCL now has the TCL 20 SE, plus the TCL 20 5G. The SE model is the very, very affordable option, while the 20 5G device is just the very affordable option. Either way, much affordable.

For the TCL 20 SE, the specs include a 6.82-inch V-notch (HD+) display, Snapdragon 460 processor, 4G RAM with up to 128GB storage, [...] For a starting price of 149EUR, that ain’t bad.

Don’t ask me why it ships with Android 10, I don’t have an answer for you.

The TCL 20 5G is expected to launch soon with a price of 299EUR. Both phones weren’t announced with US-specific availability, but we expect at least the 5G model to be made available here. We’ll keep you posted on that.
