System restore question

    I was just wondering for example, If u update a programme with a newer version and you install that update to your programme ,but discover that the update has created major problems with your programme and u then use system restore to go back 1 day and all is well again with the programme, what happens to all the updated files and entries to the registry that u downloaded, are they removed by system restore or what I want to know is what is actually removed by system restore or what does It dump from your system and what happens to the files and entries that u downloaded are they still there or have been removed.
