My wife's Outlook.pst file has somehow disappeared and her Documents\Outlook folder is empty! I could grab it from her 4-day old image backup, but since she has a System Restore Point from yesterday I was wondering if it is capable of restoring the Outlook.pst file?
I'm not sure if Windows includes the OUTLOOK framework in its restore point. You could take one now then rollback to see if it does... if it doesn't, you can always come back from whence you started.
Hi Scott, System Restore will not roll back your documents (e.g., Outlook.pst). It just recovers internal operating system files, program files, and system settings. However, since the Outlook file was apparently deleted recently there's a good chance it can be recovered. Download Recuva (https://www.piriform.com/recuva/download) and give it a go... Good luck!
Scott, Some things in general: To try to avoid these kind of things, you could use a program called OutBack Plus. http://ajsystems.com/outbackplus/obp.html With that program you can make backups of all your Outlook settings and emails (and more). It is from AJSystems. We have a thread for programs from AJSystems (they make also backup programs for Thunderbird, Windows (live) Mail, etc.): https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thre...ams-obp-ea-wmb-mtb-ezb-updates-thread.339291/ OutBack Plus is not free and you will need most likely to purchase one additional tool from them called Open File Manager : http://ajsystems.com/outbackplus/obpofm.html If you like, you can always post questions about it in that thread I mentioned or (if you like) in this thread. Support from AJSystems is great : http://ajsystems.com/contact.html
@FanJ, I really don't see the need in my wife's situation. I simply restored her Outlook.pst file from her 5-day old image backup. All of her emails over the past 5-days or so were still on the server so they automatically downloaded and all is well. @Wendi, thanks for the definitive answer to my question - re System Restore!
To avoid new issues, you could try using a very powerful backup program, bvckup2, which can copy big files very quickly (when a first backup had been made), this is particularly relevant for big pst files. Not free though, but works magically and silently. Maybe there will be special offers for BF/CM ?
