Swann home security camera sends video to wrong user
A leading security camera-maker has sent footage from inside a family's home to the wrong person's app.

Swann Security has blamed a factory error for the data breach - which was brought to its attention by the BBC - and said it was a "one-off" incident.

However, last month another customer reported a similar problem saying his version of the same app had received footage from a pub's CCTV system.

The BBC first learned of the problem on Saturday, when a member of its staff began receiving motion-triggered video clips from an unknown family's kitchen.

Ha ha Somehow, "bank-grade security key" and "human error" just don't fit together. Shouldn't that stuff be automated, and error-checked?

Swann's home security camera recordings could be hijacked

The flaw meant it was possible to hijack video and audio streamed from other people's properties by making a minor tweak to Swann Security's app.

Researchers found the problem after the BBC reported a case where one customer had received another's recordings.
"It's a gross breach of privacy - I wouldn't buy another product from them," Harry said, adding that he owned five of the affected cameras.

Five Europe-based security consultants teamed up to investigate Swann's cameras after the June report: Ken Munro, Andrew Tierney, Vangelis Stykas, Alan Woodward and Scott Helme.
