Looks good, but will it work? Or will it just be a waste of real estate on my hard drive, like it has been for the last 4 years? The only thing worth the twenty bucks was the "Repair" when uninstalling a PC Fools A-V took the Win outta my winsock.

"Waste of real-estate" - sad when people say things like that - for those that may not know the facts, a single product will never catch everything everyday - we receive over 30,000 new threats daily to analyze and so does every other company - so multiple layers of protection are the key - what does that mean? - no product is a "waste of space" on your hard drive if it adds an additional layer of protection - SUPERAntiSypware has been download almost 40 million times and removes threats others fail to remove each and every day.

And it looks like the "waste of real-estate" product (SUPERAntiSpyware) saved your butt when your other product couldn't handle it :)

Maybe I should disable avast! and MBAM, then see "where the rubber meets the road" - do a little porn surfing with just SAS on access.... nah, I ain't that stupid.

Will the updater at least install new versions? That's only worked twice in 4 years.

"....(SUPERAntiSpyware) saved your butt when your other product couldn't handle it." What does uninstalling something have to do with my other apps?

    Keep tokin', dude....

No, I would not recommend disabling the layers of protection you have - just as if you just surfed with MBAM or just with AVAST!, etc. you would get infected - multiple layers are the key to success and protection.

As far as your "tokin" comment - that explains things a little as to where you are coming from! Thanks! LOL

Yes, SAS is fine. Obviously you would run it in conjunction with something else. I have always had a lot of faith in SAS. :thumb:

SAS is a great security tool. Scanned another comp the other night, loaded with trojans and rogue programs.

If security product A found 25, security product B found 40. Question wasn't which product was better, as they both did a great job. Used security product C and D, and cleaned up more.

Bottom line is, none of the products would have done the job on their own. People slaggin off other products as worthless, even if it finds one file on your PC, that one file might have been the cause of your slow downs, or gathering your personal data.

Nick, regarding SAS's repair tools, which many users don't utilise as they should, any plans to implement any others? If not, that's ok. I know in the past I've flushed the icon cache, as these were messed up (not sure if it was virus or just operating system related, but inconvenience to the user).

I've been running a few tests, and it has detected some real malware, not FP, while all major players have not. ;)

I believe that, if some people, rather than bashing, helped/help improve more some XYZ product (and, in all honesty, I'm thinking about those offering free version of their paid product and also those that only provide free applications), it would be doing a greater good, because this person would be helping many other people who need to rely, solely, in security software. :)

I hope that with version 5.0, it just gets better. ;)

Just for the heck of it I just did a quick scan and SAS PRO found 109 tracking cookies. MBAM missed them. :)

I am not sure MBAM looks for tracking cookies, as they are generally not harmful. Most anti-malware solutions don't remove them.

Interesting. Then why does SAS bother to remove them?

Good question. Maybe because people then think it is catching stuff that others miss?

Or, perhaps because SUPERAntispyware team considers tracking cookies to be a breach in people's privacy? And, not every user blocks them within their own browser, and don't even know such is possible?

In your opinion, something breaking your privacy should be consider harmful?

    Re: SUPERAntiSpyware 5.0

I consider most of what I do online to not be private, as it can be tracked by my ISP, etc... So no, I really do not worry about cookies, and believe they are generally harmless. Which is probably why 80% of anti-malware programs ignore them.

Correct me if I am wrong, but tracking cookies are the reason I get banner ads for items I may actually be interested in(like AV software), rather than something random like a home loan. I guess I see this as a good thing, rather than malicious.

    Re: SUPERAntiSpyware 5.0

Please, note that I mentioned harmful to users privacy, if those users consider it to be, not malicious. And, if some people consider such tracking cookies to be harmful, as in they will track their actions, it will depend on each security vendor to decide whether or not to detect such type of cookies. SUPERAntispyware team seems to believe these users should be given the choice whether or not to get rid of such type of cookies. If I'm not mistaken, I believe AVG does also detect tracking cookies.

Imagine this: You go at a shopping center to store A. You do whatever you went to do there, and in store A there's, for example, ads from other services from the same shopping center or elsewhere. These services place what we call cookies in your system, and when you go to store B, those same services also have ads in this store. These services start to track your actions. Most people don't even know about it.

I personally dislike being tracked by services I do not want to interact with in the first place. I block them, period.

Other people don't know about them, hence they don't know such situation is happening. Some (whatever they number may be) security vendors believe such people should be alerted for them.

I believe this is OK. It's my own opinion; it doesn't make it valid to every one, of course. :)

I think SAS is a great program, and own a Pro license. I don't think it is bad that SAS offers the ability to remove the cookies. The cookies just don't concern me much.

Most of the sites I visit are ad supported, which helps keep them free. If ad cookies allow me to see ads more pertinent to my interests, versus random crap, even better.

I wonder if this program now detects commercial keyloggers?
Last time I remember hearing anything about it, SAS said they didn't.

    Re: SUPERAntiSpyware 5.0

If all I worried about was tracking cookies I'd still be using Ad-Aware and Spybot for free. But I expect more from a paid app, especially one that promises the world but doesn't deliver.

I downloaded more than a few things I thought might be 'iffy.' I always scan with SAS first, because I know it will fail. Then avast! or MBAM will zap the sucker. Haven't been wrong yet.

Four years on access without an alert, while the others carry the load doesn't give any confidence it's doing its job.

Maybe I should keep tokin'. Maybe the folks a SAS should give me a refund out of their stash of the good stuff.
