  1. Firecat.....Why make it so hard....Just go with NOD32 realtime....have Bitdefender free as on demand.....as you seem to like them both.

unfortunately, BD 7.2 Free has a process running in the background for no apparent reason and mine is a gaming PC, so I'd like to have it as light as possible :)

I just noticed this thread on a current outbreak.
    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,13205316

However, I would think either one should give you good results overall.

Has the "BD's HIVE detection" been tested with results posted some where?

    Thanks,

Sober.N was added today to BD's database.

BD is now displaying a lot more "behaveslike" detections with the introduction of the first part of HIVE (Phase 1, which is sort of like a Sandbox). I'm seeing this at Jotti's.

It hasnt been tested yet because it has not been fully implemented, it will be by the end of the year :)

  5. Firecat....again an easy solution.....as you would be only using Bitdefender
on demand....use task manager to turn off processes when gaming...a reboot
will get them back for updates and scanning

    better yet....
suspend them using Process Explorer ~free~ (www.sysinternals.com)... you can use the UI to replace task manager and make your job easier!
EDIT::: or you can set priority to "idle" instead of normal.
I don't need to do all thi during gaming... 512 Megs of RAM handles 40 odd processes nicely [even more!]

  7. Ya see.....there's more than one way to skin a cat ...Huh...or as the
    Canadians say Eh.

Then my 1GB RAM should do better right?

OK - I may take this setup, or *if* NOD proves not to be in my budget, I'm gonna have to buy BD :)

I use NOD, (currently the beta), on a game machine with no noticable effect. Any idea if the DB HIVE detection, when fully implemented, will have any significant impact on CPU usage?

    Thanks,

Well, Phase 1 didnt slow BD down, therefore its unlikely the new heuristics engine will cause any slowdown, except for maybe On-Demand Scanning :)

Does BD use their new HIVE heuristics engine for just the On-Demand Scanner or also the Real Time scanner?

    Thanks,

I'm not sure whether its only for On-Demand or also for realtime. My guess is, HIVE will be for both realtime and On-Demand. I'll try to get more info on that.

Yes, parts of HIVE have already been implemented :)

    Thanks!

I like the fact that NOD's real time scanner, also the mail POP3 and HTTP scanner uses NOD's Advance heuristics. This helps provide additional
    protection from some zero-day infections.

I have a forth computer that I try other AVs on. I will certainly try BD
on that machine when they fully implement their HIVE technology.

I will post an update to this thread when I do buy it. The reason I'm doing this is because I want to gift an AV to someone....

OK, I decided to spread the light. Between NOD and BitDefender, this time I choose BitDefender.

I'm gonna use ArcaVir for some time, before I buy BD. I have a friend who needs an AV, and I'll give him ArcaVir.

I do realise I've caused a lot of trouble here with this decision. I've always been like this. Always unsure of anything and everything :( (because I have a self-negativity complex :'()

Thanks for all your support :)

    Best Regards,
    Firecat :D

McAfee's for my brother. He's using it and he's quite happy with it, but I HATE the huge updates.

KAV - Well I wanted a good heuristics engine on my AV, so KAV wouldnt apply there.
