    Another vote for Page's suggestion, one could also turn off the active guard and use the AV as a scanner on demand with no impact on computer resources.
    I've been using one my XP computers for a month now only with Sandboxie and no AV. Nothing noticeable ever happened within Sandboxie, and scans with Hitman Pro and MBAM always produced clean reports. I wouldn't advise this minimal approach though without having a sound backup imaging system.
