Stratfor Attackers Prep to Publish Emails

Someone claiming to speak – or at least post – on behalf of Antisec has published a threat on Pastebin that they are planning to release e-mails obtained in the Stratfor Global Intelligence break-in.

This post, which along with some Twittter posts has further fuelled the media frenzy surrounding the attack, states that the e-mails “will vastly improve our ability to continue” what the poster claims, perhaps hubristically, is an investigation into “corruption, crime and deception on the part of certain powerful actors based in the US and elsewhere”.

More reliably, the AnonymousIRC Twitter channel has a post stating that “Stratfor is not the harmless company it tries to paint itself as. You’ll see in those e-mails.”

The publishing has begun:

It's time to dump the full 75,000 names, addresses, CCs and md5 hashed passwords to every customer that has ever paid Stratfor.
But that's not all: we're also dumping ~860,000 usernames, email addresses, and md5 hashed passwords for everyone who's ever registered on Stratfor's site.

I have to give credit where credit’s due – the company is being very open about what’s going on, and has already offered all of its affected customers one year of free identity protection coverage with identity protection company CSID.

“We deeply regret that this event has occurred, and we are working to prevent it from happening again,” Stratfor CEO George Friedman said in a letter to subscribers. “Our highest concern is the impact that this has had on you, our loyal members and friends.”

The company’s website will remain down while security is being improved and adjusted by external companies, with subscribers receiving updates by email. The company told me via email that they expect the security process to take about a week, though it may take longer.

That reporter sounds like a shill. "I have to give credit where credit’s due – the company is being very open about what’s going on..." Duh, kind of hard to deny it when you see Friedman's email and credit card on PasteBin, Hahaha. They are being so 'up front' that even though they know if those numbers were encrypted or not, they don't know... Puhleeze...
