SSD was just a recommendation. You should use your best judgement and only go for it if it suits your needs. I was thinking about it and it just occurred to me that disconnecting Optane is not a simple thing. You first need to disable it though intel software and after pulling it, you need to also disable it in BIOS, otherwise your system will BSOD at boot time. You "may" also need to change your drive controller from "Intel RST" or "Intel Optane" to AHCI, I am not completely sure about this step myself. But if you do change your controller, you will either need to install a fresh Windows or boot into safe mode first, otherwise your system will no longer boot. Restoring your Macrium image to your HDD will restore your PC to its original configuration, with Intel optane. If you were happy with your system when you bought it, you should just stick with that.
for a cheap ssd you pay twice because of trashy hardware, eg "Fikwot FS810 500GB". it has reason why better hardware costs "a bit" more.
Hi Guys, It has other problems. So as said this is now experimental, or perhaps a 'distributed computing' contributor, that's where the GPU is tops. If I put a file on the 'Macrium rescue disk', can I browse for that file, & execute it? Dell suggested using boot disk, with bios file on it, then select it <enter>.
This is not how you update the BIOS. Follow the instructions in the following link https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=phj2t At the very bottom of the page: Installation Instruction > Updating the BIOS from BIOS Boot Menu (independent of operating system)
per Dell's instructions: USB fat 32, with dl from, inserted > reboot F12 till Bios Menu Screen > choose the option for updating bios > Fail Note: Raza your method failed as it did previously! Note: The bios update screen, still has the USB light ON, quite some time. refuses to finish, & won't abort the update attempt and proceed to Windows. At the F12 update bios screen shows only Two fields accessible: FS0 & FS1 directories. FS0 & FS1 will not accept ANY values. FS0 & FS1 are temporary dir's to store information for transfer. This method failed front & back USB Ports "The presence of FS0 and FS1 directories on the BIOS update screen for your Dell XPS 8930 could indicate a few things: 1. Temporary Storage: FS0 and FS1 are commonly used by Dell BIOS update utilities as temporary storage locations for the update files. During the update process, the utility extracts the necessary files to these directories, performs the update, and then cleans up by deleting the directories. You might see them briefly on the screen before the update starts or while it's in progress." Temporary path to update BIOS path incorrect, or path not navigable to BIOS. NOTE Exact Wording at F12 chosen: BIOS Flash Update F2 does not give "UEFI Flash Update" per instructions As the verbiage written text vs observed, the Word 'UEFI' missing, from screen. It should be 'moot point' as UEFI has not come into play when that F12 option shows. So why does text say "UEFI Flash update & my F12 BIOS Flash Update. From that this appears to be error via Bard, the word mismatch to actual screen. So far just logo screen now appears, F2,F12 functional, bios not updated, Optane on the fritz. Intel seems to think or path to optane is, is dump meta data from old SATA, the features described, appear to be hidden in the Bios, if encountered, contact Dell
Working on it: Note: Intel replied cause when changing HDD. I'll bet had I cloned, this thread would not exist
