SRWare Iron - Chromium-based browser

    aside from the trust issue, there's this erratic update schedule with iron. critical vulnerabilities aren't patched timely. opera, otoh, has a built-in ad blocker and supports both chrome (with the help of an extension) and opera versions of ad blocking extensions like abp and ubo. so, that's an upside, i guess.

    Yeah, Iron was never on the ball with critical patches. I got Opera as a snap package out of the Ubuntu repo. Its internal adblocker isn't bad, possibly as good as ABP. I use uBo with Opera now. If Iron was in the Ubuntu repo I'd consider giving it a spin.

    is it ubo opera or ubo chrome? i wonder if one has any advantages over the other like lower memory footprint, cpu usage, page load time, etc.?

    It was from Opera's own extensions page. They seem the same to me.

    imsr, ubo extra isn't available on opera extensions store, whereas you can get it from chrome extensions store to use along with ubo chrome on opera. though i'm not sure if it's necessary for ubo opera. :doubt:

    That's interesting. I assumed that uBo extra wasn't needed. I'll have to ask on the Opera forums.

    As usual the Opera forums are virtually no help at all. Nothing's changed there for a decade or so then lol. The general consensus of opinion is that uBo Extra is needed but isn't included in their extensions. :confused:

    @mood -- Thanks for the update notification!!! Iron is my favorite Chromium-based browser. It is very light & fast, with none of the leaks to Google.

    I can't use it because it will not render video in high def HD, let alone FHD or 4K
