o_O I have been successfully using Spywareblaster for about 12months.
What a great tool. Stopped all the crap being put onto my machine.

However, recently I lost functionality with the program and received the following error message:

"This program has been damaged, possibly by a bad sector of the hard drive or a virus. Please reinstall it."

Despite uninstalling, reinstalling. reinstalling in different locations, running Nortons virus checker, registry tool etc. I get the same message.

Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to fix the problem - as though I run adaware, spybot, registry mechanic - Spyware blaster is the best tool I've found.

I suspect that some other program preventing SB from loading.

    Any ideas - thanks

Thanks Pieter - as requested here is the 'hijack this log' .

I followed the instructions. Hopefully you'll be able to see what sort of Gremlins have been loaded into my system. Thanks Jonnymc.

    o_O Pieter,

thanks for your advise - I stuck at it and followed your instructions but could not find the last few files to delete.

Everything seemed ok for a few days when suddenly my machine started getting slow - I then realiased that I had not run a deep scan with Nortons for a month. When i did it ID'd 23 viruses!! Cleaned that up ran, Adaware, REgcleanup etc and followed you process again to make sure nothing was left.

My computer started operating 10X faster and seemed back to full health,

BUT - it still gives me the same error message when I try to run Spywareblaster. And now I'm noticing emails being sent from my machine that I did not generate. It appears when I replicate (I'm on Notes V5.0.2A)
I see the number of sent/received files in my replicator screen > than what I've sent. When I look in th esent file All I can see are the emails that I sent and these 'other' unidentified files are nowhere to be seen.

So I have 2 Anomalies that tell me that my machine is still not right.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

    John.

    Hi John,

    This one needs fixing:
    O16 - DPF: {9EB320CE-BE1D-4304-A081-4B4665414BEF} - http://www.mt-download.com/MediaTicketsInstaller.cab

But is unrelated to your problems.

One check to make sure if CWS has really left the building:
Copy the contents of the bold text to Notepad.
    Name the file Appinit.bat
    Save as type *All Files*
    Save on the Desktop.

    Reg save "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows" windows1.hiv
    ren windows1.hiv windows.txt

    Double click on Appinit.bat
This will create a file on the desktop named windows.txt
    Post the content please.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi jonnymc,

    Here is the culprit C:\WINDOWS\System32\hlpf.dll

Use the Recovery Console to delete it.
If that doesn't work or you find it too intimidating, I will need to know if you are using XP Pro or Home and the type of file structure...NTFS or FAT32 ?
Look in My Computer. Right click the C drive and choose propterties to find the File System.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter,

I have followed the instructions on how to access the recovery console without success. I am unable to interupt the repair sequence or use F10 to get to the console.

My machine runs on Windows XP pro and uses NTFS.

Is there another way to get this thing out of there?

    Regards,

    John

Re: SpywareBlaster - corrupted? Not anymore

    Pieter,

Good news - got that sucker. I had to get a tech guy to help me load recovery console - then when we found the file it would not let us delete it so we renamed it and tried again. Still no luck!

But with the new name the file became visible and I was able to move it to another directory - where it was finally deleted.

I have now reloaded the latest version of Spyware blaster and it works!!

Thank you very much for all your help it. I owe you a beer.

    Regards,

    Jonnymc
