I have Win95 OS. I installed Spywareblaster 2.0.2 yesterday and all seemed fine. I also did an update from the program's update link. Today I checked for updates from the program and received a message box telling me that there was an update but I was to get it from your site. When I clicked close after that I got another message box saying "Run Time Error '-2147221008(800401f0)" and "System Error &H800401F0" I clicked the ok on that and the window closed. I then went to your site as directed and saw no link for an update but a new Spywareblaster version 2.5 instead for download. I thought I had better delete the old version first and clicked your uninstaller which told me that it couldn't uninstall as the uninstall file was corrupted. It wouldn't delete from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel either (same message). Can I please have some advice on this?

That's quite interesting (no one has ever reported that happening before) - luckily you can simply install the v2.5 of SpywareBlaster right over the old one (which should also replace the corrupted uninstaller). :)

EDIT: Actually now that I look at your error messages again...you might try downloading the latest Visual Basic 6 SP5 run-times (especially since you have Windows 95): http://download.microsoft.com/download/vb60pro/Redist/sp5/WIN98Me/EN-US/vbrun60sp5.exe

Thanks for your prompt reply. Do I deselect/uncheckall those items in v2.0.2 first before installing v2.5 over it or will the installation overwrite everything? Sorry to trouble you again but I don't want to mess anything up.

There's no need to do anything of the sort - the installer handles the updating process for you. :)

Thank you for the information. I followed your advice. I installed v2.5 over 2.0.2 and also installed Vbrun60sp5 as suggested. I had previously installed Vbrun60 some time ago for some other application and presume Vbrun60sp5 updates that although strangely a search afterwards only finds files Vbrun300 on my C drive. I still got the message boxes I told you about when I clicked the update button and when I clicked the close cross all the "protection" "settings" "update" etc boxes slowly blacked out one by one and I got the "run times" messages as before. Clicking OK on the "run time" message closed the window. I also noticed that the window was very slow to open compared with v2.0.2 and on clicking "select all" and "protect checked items" and "success" all the items disappeared and it went blank and I thought I'd lost them but after several seconds the checked list reappeared again. I only get these boxes triggered when I click the update button - the window closes fine when I don't. I then uninstalled the whole lot which worked this time as you predicted and deleted the spywareblaster folder (3 files left over - a text file and uninstalls from 2.0.2). I downloaded 2.5 again and reinstalled. It still behaves exactly the same as before. I have IE5 so can't use the cookie facility - I have set them to disappear. Does any of the above sound right to you? If it turns out my system is incompatible will it uninstall cleanly without disturbing anything else - particularly the registry? I hope you the above is reasonably clear to you. Sorry to be a nuisance.

SpywareBlaster's protection will work correctly on your system - you may just receive those small issues because you have Windows 95. (It sounds like a potential resource issue - what speed is your processor and do you know how much RAM you have installed?)

In any case - while those minor issues may be a nuisance, SpywareBlaster's protection will work correctly on your system. :)

Just out of curiousity, can you try the "alternative download method" option in Settings?

    Best regards,

Once again, thanks. I had a look at the alternative download info but changing proxy settings is beyond me i'm afraid - I've left the use system connection/proxy checked. I don't use a proxy for my system ISP. I shall let the program lie in the background for a bit and see what happens when a new update comes up. I don't really understand how my Win95 OS causes these problems as it was fine with v2.0.2 until today. There is still something wrong because the Index in your Help file is completely blank and waiting doesn't bring any content up. I shall go to bed now -it's gone 1 am where I am - and play around again tomorrow. Hope to hear further views if you have any on all this. Perhaps you can just confirm that the program does uninstall cleanly because there seems to be a lot of registry input unless these hundreds of items are kept separately somewhere.

There is an important note to be made about your last question: For all changes to be removed, you need to uncheck all items in the program and press the "Remove Protection for Unchecked Items" button before uninstalling.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks again. I don't know why I've got these glitches with 2.5 - 2.0.2 was great. I have Win95, Intel Pentium MMX 166 and 80MB of RAM and IE5. It is either not fully compatible with Win95 or maybe IE5. It looks like a really good program but obviously disagrees with my system. I've reluctantly had to uninstall following your advice to uncheck first. My only concern now is that when I uninstalled previously (v2.0.2 updated by 2.5) as I explained above I did not uncheck anything in my ignorance but then I reinstalled 2.5 on its own immediately afterwards which I hope put things back to where they were before the first uninstall. Perhaps you can just reassure me on this.

Not sure where this last message which just quotes my first message already answered came from or what it means.
