Is there anyway of testing (with out risking real spyware) Spyware guard.

Becuase I have added a program (Legit) that adds a BHO, Spyware guard did not detect it.

How can I test Spyware Guard BHO is working and download protection?

    Regards,
    Gareth

First, make sure that the Browser Hijacking Protection is enabled.

Second, try copying the following data into a new file named "test.reg":

    REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\Test Fake BHO Entry]

Then double-click on the reg file to merge it into your registry.

SpywareGuard should pop up an alert about a new "BHO", Test Fake BHO Entry.

    Best regards,

Hey, this is what I installed:

Spyware blaster did not ask if I wanted to install it?

Here is where it is located, does spyware guard protect this area?

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions

And does spyware guard protect this too?

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Explorer Bars

Only I can add tests to them and they dont get detected.

    This is that I do:

    Create a new file: test.reg

    Then type:

    REDEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Explorer Bars\Test Bar]

    No detection!

SpywareGuard doesn't currently have protection for those areas. But I will look into adding it (perhaps not in the next version, which is very close to a release, but in the version after). :)
