sptd.sys

I tried registering at alcohol's & sptd's forums 3 times but did not receive any validation so I will try asking my questions here.

I just experienced a crash with sptd 1.55 which was bundled with Alcohol 120% v1.9.7 (Build 6221). I am going to upgrade to version 1.56 to see if it solves the problem but first I have some questions.

When updating sptd is it better to 1st uninstall old version, reboot and then install updated version or is it safe to update on top?

If it is better to uninstall old version 1st will this effect Alcohol?

Does Alcohol require sptd to function properly?

 

My experience with the driver is that when using windows XP service pack 3 on a dell precision M6300 the driver slowed my system down a lot. That's why I uninstalled the driver (and alcohol);
i didn't have this problem with service pack 2

 

If you download sptd install from here:
http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads
you will be prompted to "Update" or "Uninstall". I would uninstall first, reboot and run the file again to install the new version.
