For months and months when I play music through Itunes, real audio, wmv, or quicktime it all sound sped up distorted and scratchy. I'm pretty sure there are file types being used by more than one of these devices but I have no idea which ones or what file types should be associated with what. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

You might want to reinstall your audio drivers.

Ok here we go. Click start/all programs/system tools/system info/components/sound device. the name of your sound device will be on the top of the list. post back and tell me what it is.

You can go here and get the latest drivers for your machine . Requirments for the specific drivers are listed and there is a support option also. Download your drivers and just install them. I have done it a few times myself. you will need a little info about your comp.
