I have a Dell Dimension 4700 that experienced a hard drive crash. The original OS was Windows XP Home which I upgraded to XP PRO when the new hard drive was installed. According to Belarc, my machine has a SoundMax Integrated Audio device on the motherboard which was working fine prior to the crash, now, of course it doesn't work. Other resources suggest that I obtain new drivers for this device, but the ones that I'm able to locate are for older OS. In addition the MS System Information appears to know nothing about the sound device as it doesn't even appear in the generated reports. Is this a common problem when upgrading the OS, or have I stumbled across a unique situation? Please advise.
