You don't know how the test was conducted, nor do you know if they used dormant/active viruses. There isn't enough evidence to suggest which one is best, so although I'm not saying sophos is crap and mcafee and norton are top notch, I am saying that I can't trust this test.

    I think this is true.
Just take a look at the av comparatives latest test and Sophos has done well on Retrospective/ProActive Test.
I feel that they are improving alot, good for them.

    Hi

Sophos is very strong when you turn on the HIPS but it has a lot of false positives.

I really believe I would give this test a wide berth. Any test that gives that much of a different result than most of the other testing sites would be suspicious to me.

We run Sophos on our network (around 500 or so Windows machines and 200 Macs)..... it stops a lot of crap dead in it's tracks.... but it also flags a lot of harmless files through packer detection and the HIPS (which quarantined quicktime for suspicious behavioru on half of the machines at one point :)).... its a long way off perfect but it seems to do the job... so far we have only had two or three machines come back "infected" within last few months (with vundo each time). It also pisses off all of the kids when their keygens are detected and deleted as a PUA :D

If you want less FP, you can sacrifice some of the advanced detection options (but then again bringing down the detection rate), but pricing is competetive and support is responsive so I'm not complaining :)

Doddle to manage via enterprise console too.

How much did Sophos pay to get this guy to knock Symantec, McAfee, along with a slight dig at Kaspersky, Eset, and Softwin, and praise Sophos? Just wondering.

This is one of those deals where someone is trying to steal business from someone else.

Do any of us have to worry about Sophos. I thought they were enterprise only.

For myself I'll listen to what Sophos says when they enter the market for everyone. They operate in a somewhat closed environment so as far as I'm concerned they are not in a position to comment.
Let's see how they would stack up with the masses. I'm in the UK and they keep well away from the general user.

Haha consumer product support must piss them off. Some of the stuff I see in the ESET forums... the home user is just so irrational.

the pricing of sophos isnt as bad as people think.
£83 for three users. thats £27 a license. thats around what the others charge.
just because they dont target the home user doesnt mean the home user cant buy it.
    just look here
the "i am looking for a home version of this product"
i would much rather buy sophos than use the so called leader products which most of them i can get for free legally.

83 pounds for 3 computers is more expensive than the average 3 user pack. I also dont want a 3 pack either.
