I am having trouble deleting adware.lop, hopefully you can help me out, also, when I play pogo etc. with cards, the game stalls, like the cards in midair, hopefully all will connect if you can help. Thank you, J
    June 28,2004
Since nobody has answered my request, this should not make a difference. Two days after I posted this, Norton is no longer telling me I have adware.lop.
But I do see in my computer ChinStyle.dll and mode move bash (connected to openintersecond) which the computer will not let me delete (access denied)
Hopefully someone will get back to me soon as computer is still running very slow and I just know I have problems. Thanking you in advance, J :'(

    Hi Jyln,

First, make sure you have all files and folders viewable: How to Show Hidden Files and Folders

Next, create a permanent folder on your C: drive (example: C:\HJT\ ) and move Hijackthis.exe into the permanent folder. HijackThis must run from it's own folder as it creates backups in the folder it is ran from, so if you should delete something you needed, you will be able to restore it from the backups.

Then re-scan with Hijackthis and place a check beside the following items.
Close ALL browsers and any other open windows (except HijackThis) and click *Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://searchweb2.com/searchbar.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchweb2.com/searchbar.html

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoUpdater] "C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate\AutoUpdate.exe"

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key just before windows begins to load.

Find and delete the following listed in bold:
C:\PROGRA~1\OPENIN~1 <-- the folder that starts like this and has the "mode move bash.exe" file in it.
    C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate <--entire folder

While still in safe mode, go to the C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Local Settings\Temp\ and select everything in that folder and delete it (don't delete the Temp folder itself though).

Then navigate to the C:\windows\temp\ and delete everything in there too except the following folders, Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and History folders (leave those).

And clear your IE cache: open IE --> Tools --> Internet Options --> click on "Delete Files" and put a check in the box for "Off line contents", click OK, then click the "History" button, then click "yes" to clear it, then "OK" to close the Internet Options Panel.

    ****
You got the LOP with MessengerPlus. I would suggest uninstalling MessengerPlus through the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
    See here for more information.

If you have not done so already, download Spybot Search&Destroy
Install it, and bring it up-to-date by pressing the "OnLine" button, then the "Search for Updates" button.

    1. Put a check inside the items listed for download and install them.
    2. Then click on "Check for Problems". Have Spybot remove all that it lists in RED.
    3. Once Spybot S&D is finished removing the items, close the program and restart your computer.

    Then download Ad-Aware6.
Install it, and bring it up-to-date by clicking on the program's webupdate (the globe icon), then click the "connect" button to download the most recent Reference-file.

Follow these instructions for setting up Ad-Aware for a full scan:
How To Perform a "Full Scan" with Ad-Aware6.

Here are some steps to follow to help tighten your security and help prevent future infection:
Why did I get infected in the first place?

Once the above is done, rescan with Hijackthis and post a new log (in this thread) so we can check it.

Hi! I have received and done all that you asked, not sure if you are reading my return to you, but I have since posted 2 more logs, slightly outdated now, and nobody has given me any directions to take. Perhaps you could look into this for meo_O Thanks, I just did a Macafee scan, says I don't have anything new. Thanks again

    Hi Jyln,

I'm not sure what you mean, you've posted two more logs? I am subscribed to this thread and if you had posted a "Reply" to it, I would receive the notification immediately (that's why I am here right now, I received the notice that you had replied to the thread with your post above).

Are you 'editing' your first post with new logs by any chance? It looks like this is the case. Please do not do that. :) Instead, when you post a new log, click on the "Post Reply" button so it adds another post to this thread. Then I will get the notification that you replied to it.

Could you now do another scan with Hijackthis and click on the Post Reply button, and post a new log so we can see where we're at. :)

    Thank you,

    snap

    Hi Jyln,

It's looking much better, but was there a reason you wanted to keep this one?

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dead live] C:\PROGRA~1\OPENIN~1\mode move bash.exe

If you just missed it in the first fix, then you can fix it now.

Hijackthis and place a check beside the following items.
Close ALL browsers and any other open windows (except HijackThis) and click *Fix checked:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dead live] C:\PROGRA~1\OPENIN~1\mode move bash.exe

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key just before windows begins to load.

Find and Delete the following folders highlighted in bold:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\OPENIN~ <--the one that starts like this and has the "mode move bash.exe" inside.
C:\PROGRAM FILES\SPAMFI~ <--the one that starts like this and had the "Chin Style.dll" inside

Make sure AdAware and Spybot S&D were brought up-todate prior to scanning, and followup with another scan.

Use the Disk cleanup Utility to clean out your Temp folders. Disk Cleanup Utility

Rescan with Hijackthis and post a new log.

Hi! Getting the hang of this now, hopefully will be the last post. I had not deleted the OPENING one originally cause I couldn't find it, as I wrote in my reply, but got it this time maybe. Thanks

    Hi Jyln,

    Your log is clean. :)

To clean your System Restore of any infection that would have been backed up and saved there, follow these instructions: System Restore Instructions for XP.
Remember to re-enable System Restore after the reboot, and set a new Restore Point.

Here are some steps to follow to help tighten your security and prevent future infection:
Why did I get infected in the first place?

And make sure to visit Microsoft's Update Site frequently to keep Critical Updates listed for XP and IE6 current.

    Regards,
