Snapping at Canonical's Snap: Linux Mint team says no to Ubuntu store 'backdoor' Version 20 will ship without any snap packages, snapd daemon June 2, 2020 https://www.theregister.com/2020/06/02/linux_mint_team_snap/ Neowin: Linux Mint 20 reins in belligerent snapd over stealth installs
Linux Mint Dumps Ubuntu Snap https://news.slashdot.org/story/20/06/05/2148219/linux-mint-dumps-ubuntu-snap ...Clem has had enough: "In the Ubuntu 20.04 package base, the Chromium package is indeed empty and acting, without your consent, as a backdoor by connecting your computer to the Ubuntu Store. Applications in this store cannot be patched, or pinned. You can't audit them, hold them, modify them, or even point snap to a different store. You've as much empowerment with this as if you were using proprietary software, i.e. none. This is in effect similar to a commercial proprietary solution, but with two major differences: It runs as root, and it installs itself without asking you." So is Mint dumping Snap now as in it's safe & Snap free to install 2020-03-20: Distribution Release: Linux Mint 4 "LMDE"? Or do we have to wait for the next Mint Distribution Release?
Great TY RP. Just noticed though on the Mint download page I had to choose other versions to get to the Linux Mint 4 LMDE version download links. On the default download page all that's offered are the Ubuntu based versions.
If I understood it correct they will release a new version in june without the "sneaky install" Snapd https://www.zdnet.com/article/linux-mint-dumps-ubuntu-snap/ Read the last paragraph would be to much quoting here.
