I honestly believe NVT is quasi-dead, no news (it takes 2mn to Andreas or someone of his staff to say hello and gives infos on the development) , no updates, nothings. Either he has so major personal issues or he sold the company.

    NVT is not dead ;)
Regarding SOB, a GUI-less version will be released in a few weeks. I'm not sure if the regular version will be updated too, but we'll see.

GUI was requested since ages. NVT team absence was supposed because they were busy by making a GUI-version SoB for a special customer...and yet we will get a GUI-less one...
Anyway, let see when we will have it.

Yeah! (not an exclamation of happiness;))

We all had expectations of a new GUI version of S.O.B.

Isn't SOB about the same as Appguard?

SOB is like an Anti-Executable, in addition it can block drivers and DLL's.
It's like ERP but without GUI controls.

    Correct :)
Editing the settings or rules with notepad is not really user-friendly

It's the same with Excubits products. Some of you use and have no problem creating all the rules for the various Excubits products, but turn around and complain about having to do it in SOB.

I'm not complaining, i don't have problems with SOB or GUI-less apps.

LOL.. I didn't mean you in particular. Just a general statement.

You know how to handle your security softs.

I look for user friendly apps with a GUI, since I am not a programmer/developer/geek. My 2 cents worth. ;)

Well I am a geek and I am turned off by any apps no matter their effectiveness if GUI-less.

Who needs to type/copy/paste etc in notepad all the time when a GUI can auto-browse and set rules at the click of a switch.

It's 21st Century and just makes it a more friendly experience.

OK I see your point but as the rest pointed out who besides the tech community are going to benefit from this software? I can see maybe IT teckies from small business or other nerds like those here, but really not see many home users using this without a GUI. since my very early years here on wilders, I have always looked at software from a home user view.
please don't go by my current nickname here to look at all my old posts. there is not many that have been here as long as I have. pre 1000 users.

I'm obviously not quite geek enough though to favor Windows 95 notepad editing of rules (always) because of no GUI in a security product.

The way i see things is that if it's well developed enough for PC security, then what's so difficult to also make it straight up user friendly/accessible.

Also prefer using ink pens than pencils.
