I am experiencing that a small unallocated space of about 500KB is automatically created ahead of a new partition just created.
How can I get rid of this unallocated space or create a new partition without this unallocated space?

What version and build of DD are you using?

What type of partition are you creating? If it's a Logical partition, you could try creating a Primary partition. Usually, the space reserved before a Logical partition is about 7.4MB, not 500KB. Is this on a normal hard drive?

    Thanks for your response.
The version is 10.0 build 2.160. The partitions are on SATA150 hard drive.
The latest such incidence was that about 500KB of unallocated space was created ahead of the first primary partition, then another ahead of the first logical partition, and the very end of the last logical partition. I do not remember the size of each unallocated space except the one above. In the past I remember seeing 7 or 8MB of such unallocated space.

There were three primary partitions and three logical partitions in an extended partition. When I create partition on a new hard drive, I use Windows utility of Disk Management. Then I use Disk Director when I need to modify partition. Because of the problem I deleted all partitions and attempted to start from scratch but still an unallocated space showed up when the the first primary partition was created. I went back to Disk Management, deleted all partitions and repartitioned.

500KB or 7MB of unallocated space may be harmless but when I see partitions in graphic format, they do not look clean. I wonder if there is remedy.

Does the same thing happen if you clear the drive and then create the partitions with DD instead of Disk Management?

Can you post screenshots of what DD (in Manual Mode) shows and what Disk Management shows?

It was not exactly the same thing but the unallocated space was created: After clearing all partition by DD, then when I created the first primary partition by DD, an unallocated space showed up.

Presently I do not have that problem condition so that I can not get the screen shot.

I did not check it for the latest incidence how it was shown on the Disk Management. But I remember that the Disk Management never showed the unallocated spaces even when DD did.

In the past, sometimes I could remove the unallocated space so created, by dragging the left edge of the partition toward the left.

    Hello all,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

churin, the exact size of the space created is not clear from message.

However, let us explain one thing, it is related to 7,8 MB's of unallocated space on each drive.

There are two situations in which partitioning software (i.e. Acronis Disk Director) can detect an area of unallocated space of up to 7.8 MB in size that was not created there manually:

    1. Up to 7.8 MB (minimum of 1MB) of unallocated space resides in the end of the hard disk. This area is reserved by Windows (NT family) operating systems for the purpose of creation of Dynamic Disk structures. This unallocated space area is not shown by Windows Disk Management; however Acronis Disk Director is able to merge it with an adjacent partition. Therefore, after doing that there can be problems with creating Dynamic Disk structures.

    2. Exactly 7.8 MB of unallocated space reside in the beginning of the hard disk. Normally this means that there are no Primary partitions on the hard drive and the hard drive contains an Extended partition only. In such cases Windows reserves the minimal amount needed for creating a partition (7.8 MB) in order to be able to handle the only Extended partition properly. It is not recommended to remove this area. Even though technically it is possible to merge it with the Extended partition, this may result in the data on it becoming inaccessible.

Detailed information about Acronis Disk Director product can be found in User's Guide.

    Thank you.

HELP! About "unallocated space before" when creating a partition!!!

    According to the image above.

Why the two unallocated partition cannot be automatic joined?

when i create the partition, there is a hidden area cannot be changed, and it is "Primary" , if you create it as "Logical", there is a small unallocated area before it.

the result is there is 2.544M unallocated area before each one.

notice that ,there is an unallocated area is 1.544MB , and it is cannot be joined left or right.and it is cannot be created as NTFS.why ?why?

the graphic structure is different as PQ,there are no extended area , only logical area, and primary area can in the middle of two logical areas.why?

    please help me!

    but my disk structure is:

Unallocated 2.515M can only be created as NTFS and Primary
    Primary c: 20G NTFS Pri,Act
    Logical d: 20G NTFS
    Logical e: 20G NTFS
Unallocated 1.544M cannot be created as NTFS or Logical
    Logical f: 20G NTFS

    why?and how can i remove the unallocated 1.544MB spaceo_O?

    gzsony,

Did you create all partitions with DD?
Did Vista create its own partition?
You could post starting sector information?

    Hello gzsony,

It is unclear, since we are not aware of the operations you were performed.

Try to resize your Primary partition and add the created Unallocated Space to it.

    Thank you.
