Slow File sharing

Has anyone else had slow file sharing. I've got two shared drives. If I click on these the computer sits there thinking about it then connects after ten seconds or so.
After that it'll connect straight away then after a period of time it'll be back to square one.
The firewall is in automatic mode both computers XP.
Didn't have this problem until I installed ESS Smart security.

 

It could be scanning the files transferring before it connects.

 

Now if it is where do I turn that off. At work at the mo so not in front of the computer.

 

I've switched off network drive scanning and I'll see if this makes a difference.

 

Well it's not virus scanning on the network drive as I've turned this off and there's still a delay.

Those also another problem if I load a web page of a shared drive this takes ages to load as well.

Disabling the firewall it's instant access so what setting is it in the firewall that is slowing the access down.

 

Putting the firewall into interactive mode fixed the problem.
