In that menu you ll get rules from the custom "User Rules" section. You may not see them all there.
If you ve made a ruleset in there, with the "Simplewall" name, or if you ve changed the name of some pre-existent ruleset to "Simplewall" , you ll get that in this list with that name.
As it s in the lower part, it must be a custom rule and not one of the defaults.
What are the rule properties, as it should be shown in the list ("User Rules")?
Keep in mind a rule needs a name to be saved.

And, as you already posted the picture, one should know that more than one choice can be made here.If an app requires TCP and UDP for example, and needs both, the user will make those custom sets and then check the boxes when needed accordingly.

    Thanks for the response.

    Yes, it is.

I have the same issue on my own PC: Because my account is a standard user account, I'm prompted for the Administrator's password when I log in. That's only a minor nuisance. In contrast, my children log on and off constantly with three of them sharing a PC, so it becomes a chore having to type in the password so often.

    Any other ideas?

Let s see what the developer will do about it.

The timer is a great feature in managing what kids do :)
There is great potential in this firewall.

The timer is my primary reason for using SimpleWall; IMO, it's the killer feature. I agree about it having great potential.

UAC does not need to be disabled! Use the Admilink. Create a shortcut for SW in it, enter the administrator password, create autostart for this shortcut, disable autostart in the SW itself. It's all. You do not have to enter the administrator password to start the SW anymore. This will not affect the launch of other programs on behalf of the administrator in any way, there you will still need to enter a password.

Thanks for the lead. Will look into this ASAP and provide an update. I can't imagine I'm the only person having this issue. Or does everyone here using SW do so with administrative accounts?

These are the features of running any applications on behalf of the administrator on non-administrator accounts.

To block IP, SW uses the address list from WindowsSpyBlocker, 52.148.151.26 is not in this list.

This proves one more time the futility of blocking based on IP , when the IP can change anytime.

This only proves the need of making the list editable for the user, right from the interface.Ranges can be add-ed then.
The issue here is that the Blocklist needs to be editable for the users, to add various IP-s, even if in a limited numbers.
The telemetry though is real.If you leave ON the Notifications, for svchost.exe, the pop-ups are often while doing various things.Quite scary i would say, this W10.

Rather than having a Blocklist which may be inaccurate and change any minute, why we do not have a list with known Windows processes involved in telemetry?

A list should be easy to make (Win7 32/64 and Win10 32/64) and the user can simply block that process when prompted by the firewall.

In my situation I blocked "CompatTelRunner.exe" and I do not care about IP's anymore.

How difficult can be to make such a listo_O?

You can choose whatever type of action you need, some like the Blocklist approach as well, as the IP-s ranges can be found to be relevant for more than one exes , even for non windows processes.Telemetry is a wide domain.I ve seen the Blocklist kicking in for Origin as well.

I imagine people might be more inclined to answer if they thought you actually needed help, but lets be honest, this is probably another bait post leading to you trying to highlight some flaw in simplewall.. Then, predictably, you'll ignore anyone taking the time to help you unless you can find a flaw to highlight in their solution. Yawn.

    You got me.

All I asked was a feedback from developer.
Personally I couldn't find other solution than to fully allow dashost, system and svchost which, im my opinion defies the purpose of a firewall.

But, on the other hand, looks nice in the taskbar.

You've said multiple times that you see no value in WFP firewalls and that they offer ZERO value to a security setup. You've said multiple times that you don't use firewalls... Then you act like you're a user of the software who needs some help and can't understand why people don't answer. It's tiresome and I can completely understand why developers often don't engage with you.

I have no doubt you couldn't find a solution; You don't want solutions, you only look for problems.

This is exactly my point, unnecessary nonconstructive negativity. You honestly expect people to try to help you when all you do is **** on developers who make free software and ignore advice from forum members?

OK,you got me wrong, I do not need "help"

There is nothing to help on a rule based firewall; either you have the rule or not.

All I want is a feedback from developer; if nothing can be done regarding the svchost.exe and System and the solution is to fully allow access to the internet, you do not have to be a genius to figure out the such a firewall ads ZERO value to protecting your PC

If I am wrong , or I am doing something wrong , by all means, share your solution which can make this firewall valuable.

Just saying nothing , especially as the developer of the product, doesn't add confidence.

Smartwall's developer posts at Wilders seldom or never. If someone truly wants technical answers from this developer, the most likely place to try is developer's GitHub page HERE.

I suggest you post meaningful, firewall-generic questions in the TinyWall (TW) thread. Ultim, TW's developer, often answers questions and responds to issues.

Thanks, but I need answers about SimpleWall not about TinyWall, and I have specific questions not generic ones.

Let's wait, maybe somebody else would answer, if not the developer; meanwhile I experiment tightening the rules.

o_O You're asking for help configuring Simplewall.. The act of requesting someone send you a rule is asking for help, the act of posting a rule is helping someone to configure their firewall. Real people take time out of their day to post workarounds and solutions, but you don't see that as helping you?

And if AV doesn't catch 100% of malware at all times (which is nearly all of them), it adds ZERO value to protecting your PC?

If you're worried about BITS, try disabling it and see how you get on.. In my previous post, which you ignored, I mentioned that in testing I was still able to search and install updates without issues. I also gave you some ideas on updating windows over LAN etc.

You state multiple times that the developers free software is useless and adds ZERO value, then expect personal support from them. I imagine if you showed a little gratitude for the work put in and didn't immediately call the software trash every time you come across a problem you can't resolve, the developer may be more inclined to respond.

You are right somehow; however, most of reputable AV catch +99%
SimpleWall , the way it is designed and implemented , will allow you to get , at best, 50% internet control .
