Description Simple tool to configure Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) which can configure network activity on your computer. Features Simple interface without annoying pop ups Dropped packets logging (Windows 7 and above) Internal blocking lists (malware, telemetry) Free and open source Localization support IPv4/IPv6 support You can download either the installer or portable version. For correct working, need administrator rights. Homepage http://www.henrypp.org/product/wfptool i Was impressed how very well it work! its stand alone app that can work with or without windows firewall plus it seems no need dot net frame work nice ui and light in cpu and memory usage another note after allow program example firefox, you should restart firefox to connect to internet another note after setting rule you can close program.rules remain active
When you run this exe for the first time, it tries to connect to 195.210.46.14 which is in Kazakhstan. Not sure why it needs to connect to the author's website.
it have bug currently at least for me.time to time stop program from launching. i reported hope soon fixed.since its very good tool to me
no i mean freeze other program not itself example, after an hour when i again try launch Firefox it window wont open but in ProcessHacker i see Firefox.exe running with around 9-10 mb but nothing happen.also after terminate it i see still Firefox running i am running windows 7
Probably because of auto-update, just about all apps do this nowadays. But did you test it? Does it really work independently of the Win Firewall?
since its not install any driver i think not entirely free from windows driver i think it use bellow driver "Windows Firewall Authorization" service (mpsdrv=Windows Firewall Authorization Driver is a kernel mode driver that provides deep inspection services on inbound and outbound network traffic.) which Windows 10 Firewall Control use that too. but for sure not base on MpsSvc service and i tested it work 100% just that bug are bad
See option: [X] Periodically check for updates (recommended) ------ There is a new Release: Wfp Tool v1.3.2 (29 October 2016) http://www.henrypp.org/product/wfptool Spoiler: Changelog v1.3.2 v1.3.2 (29 October 2016) added domain\username indication to log events added filter name to log events added ip/port range support for rules combined ip and port rules settings page added save checkbox state on install/delete message added listen loopback permission added inbound events logging set xml load encoding to auto improved logic for detect incorrect applications listview empty text indication doesn't changed at locale change changed default log parameters for "system" & "svchost.exe" fixed inbound ip doesn't affected in applied rules changed default color for silent applications removed output log into debug log feature improved open/save file dialog flags optimized log callback updated blocklist updated translation minor improvements
There are some minor bugs, but looks like a really nice program. Testing on W7. Logging only logs processes without allow rules On my system it did not work until I enabled dropped packets logging & I had to reboot system Application list does not always sort - especially if delete a program rule then re-add it; have to switch between sort modes to get list to sort There is no filtering of early launch processes after system boot\restart Not sure what one or two settings mean; no help file - e.g. "Do not block executable"
Looks to me as if all the WIndows system32\sysWOW64 processes are auto - whitelisted; you will get no alerts. So if malware abuses a Windows process for which there is no existing explicit rule, then you will get no alerts since the default rule - without an explicit rule - is default allow. For example, if malware abuses cmd, cscript, wscript, etc - then there are no alerts. Startup programs are whitelisted and there are no alerts. Seems to me that the system is wide-open except for filtering of non-startup C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86)
Okay, check for updates is the default when you run the app. I have not tested it yet. It will be a while before I can.
i get the response from developer thanks to him his working on bug fix now,he has no time to create help file now other note from him
WARNING !! Uninstalling Wfp Tool does not return Windows Firewall and filtering for programs to a state prior to installing Wfp Tool unless... When you uninstall Wfp Toll - BEFORE DOING SO - you must: 1. untick "Disable Windows FIrewall"; and 2. Uninstall filtering Otherwise two things will happen: A. Windows Firewall and associated services will remain disabled and cannot be started (Error 0x8007042c) https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2530126 B. Programs will not be able to connect to the internet In other words, if you do not do the above, the disabled Windows Firewall and program filtering will remain on system (in BFE Service\registry ?). You can correct this by reinstalling Wfp Tool and doing 1 and 2 above, but for 2 you must recreate all the rules that were present at the time you initially uninstalled it and then uninstall the filtering. What a mess...
there is no such issues here when installing filter if you keep the tick of "Disable Windows firewall" firewall will be disabled if not it will remain enabled.example if you have wfc the icon of that program go to "!" sign. when uninstall filter if you keep the of "enable Windows firewall" windows firewall will be on you can check status by wfc or with built in windows firewall no disconnect issues happen here perhaps you tampered some service manually? long time i ago i do something like that and the a only program was able to restore my firewall is d7II. but if you really see there is problem email him or post on github but it have some other bug that prevent using it normally now.which he is working on it BFE Service is always on my pc and on VirtualBox without wfptool.not sure what you are talk about!
I see that you you filed an issue @ Github Maybe the author should implement a better "deinstaller" that enables the firewall and is uninstalling the filtering while it's deinstalled?
I hope so or Wfp Tool will be quickly labeled "Garbage..." -- which isn't really justified. There is no documentation so you have to find out the hard way. Smashed my networking for a minute until I figured it out.
I installed Wfp Tool. Used it for a couple of hours. Uninstalled it. After uninstalling Windows Firewall was disabled, Windows Firewall service was disabled, and some programs were blocked from internet access. I fixed it by following the procedure I posted here on this thread. It is as simple as that. I didn't tamper with any services. Bug hunting is how I earn my living - and all the soft publishers I deal with find my reports very reliable. Take your fanboyism somewhere else...
wake up its not fanboyism there is no point for that.i am telling you there is a no such problem here then you talk fanboyis! if i have such problem really saying to you. but maybe that's such problem that happen for novice user i really don't know
Here is download link to video: https://mega.nz/#!xVpQDZ4J!q-lEGT5dJEGK4_Iph10e87xRwLot82lKqroUZBYEHZ4 Find HTML5 folder > demo.html > right-click > Open with Google Chrome (use Chrome for best video quality) I can reproduce all reported issues at will. There are other videos at Github.
Later, if i have enough space "Your available browser storage for MEGA cannot handle this download size, please free up some disk space" I think one of the github-issues should be solved now (No Filtering of System32, SysWOW64 and Startup Processes #4)
