sometimes, i need to store little bits of information,
    in notepad or wordpad,
is there a way to put a horizontal line between 2 bits of info
ms word has this ability , i think, but i don't have ms word installed
how do i do this with either notepad or wordpad, without having to type 'dashes'
and is there a portable freeware note-taking application which can do this?

There is no insert horizontal line in either notepad or wordpad, however, you can use underscore to create a line. Hold the Shift key down, while pressing on the Dash key. For a free MS Word compatible program, try either AbiWord or AbiWord Portable.

I use Notecase for notes, and save them encrypted (you can choose).
    http://notecase.sourceforge.net/
Just noticed the last free version was released. Well it works for me anyway :p
