    Very true. But you are assuming everyone would want it the way you do. Some folks might like it the way it is, and not want to see the extra information. They would then have to click to undo it.

    Note also even windows explorer doesn't display it to everyone's liking so there are options. to change it. Only problem is in the recovery environment there is no way to set them permanently.

    No default will ever please everyone. This isn't computers, it's life.

    Computers were created by a bunch of geeks to resolve geeky things. We're still using the keyboard and mice as main input devices :)
