    Regarding the discussion as to whether or not to instal SP,or just to use the disk,here is a useful summary;

    " There are a few disadvantages to making your backups within the booted CD Recovery Environment instead of using the installed product. They are:

    1) You have to interrupt application availability by booting into the recovery environment.

    2) There is no "fast incremental" backup capability in the recovery environment.

    3) There is no scheduling capability in the recovery environment (for automated, unattended backup on a defined schedule).

    4) Remote management of a machine that is running the recovery environment requires a user to enter a password for the VNC service on the machine that's running the recovery environment. This same individual needs to communicate this password to you if you are running the vncviewer.exe client so that you can connect to and control the machine on which the vnc service is running (which is the machine on which the recovery environment is booted). There is no need for human interaction if you wish to manage a remote machine on which ShadowProtect is installed.

    That being said, there are some advantages to doing backups within the recovery environment, namely that:

    1) There is no need to install anything on your system

    2) The backups capture your data in a completely cold state when nothing, not even the file system, is in use. Such a backup based on this "cold state" is called a "cold state image/backup."

    3) I/O can be slightly faster for a full backup, particularly in the Vista/Recommended WinPE environment as there is less system activity and a more streamlined storage stack. However, sometimes this is not the case, particularly in the few cases where a storage miniport driver works less quickly within WinPE than it does when installed on a normal Windows system."
