Request for a new feature. Since the continued development of sandboxie is uncertain. It would be nice if S.A.P. had a sandboxing feature specifically for the user to sandbox legitimate applications for an extra layer against changes made by applications during use.

The ability to make more than one sandbox would also be very nice and being able to set the containers to be deleted once all processes inside them are closed is a nice feature too.

Being able to auto-contain a list of legitimate applications would also be a must for a feature like that.

And of course, S.A.P.'s whitelisting and scanning would be in full effect against anything downloaded in the sandbox just the same as it is regarding the rest of the system.

I would be fine with that feature being stuck behind the paywall of the pro version.

    Hi everyone.

If I add SAP Lite to my existing security mix (per my sig) would you recommend I enable its ClamAV?

Any other suggestions to harden data privacy/protection would also be most welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

The clam AV component you can get with S.A.P. uses a TON of ram, never use it, never install it. Not worth it.

Thanks GDM for that valuable input. Any other tips when installing & setting-up SAP Lite?

Edit: I see you also use VS so it's opportune for me to ask if adding VS Free would be a better fit than SAP Lite for my current mix.

Silent mode rules. But I would still recommend paying for the pro version for faster results from unknown file submissions and the option to use the "name and thumbprint" whitelisting setting.

Understood, but first I'll give SAP Lite a good look on my system. If all goes well I'll definitely consider upgrading.

PS. Did you see the 'Edit' on my previous post?

Voodoo is lighter than S.A.P. and it uses MD5 AND SHA256 hashes to check files, but that too is much better when paid for.
When using S.A.P. and voodooshield together, you will need to allow S.A.P. to do a command line that voodoo normally blocks. a command line from the instance of 7z(dot)exe in SecureAPlus' folder that makes use of conhost.

Thanks for that info, but I wasn't considering using both of them - I just want one of them and was asking for your recommendation as to which of the two would go best with my existing security stuff. ;)

Jo Ann please read our posting rules regarding asking for anti-virus comparisons.

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/posting-policy-recommended-threads.180128/#post-1041384
Perhaps just give both a try separately and see which works best for you and your setup.

@stapp, is that rule really applicable to this situation? o_O ...Please consider the following:
    1. I was NOT asking for, or inviting an open-ended comparison between two AVs!
    2. Based on his use and knowledge of both SAP and VS I was asking @GrDukeMalden which one best fit my security configuration to further my stated specific purpose ("harden data privacy").
    3. VS isn't an AV in the traditional sense. Furthermore I accepted @GrDukeMalden's advice to disable SAPs ClamAV during installation (so I wasn't comparing AVs)!
For the reasons stated above, I don't think that posting rule is applicable so I'm asking for your reconsideration. If you still believe it is applicable I will of course abide and not pursue this any further.

Or --- you could open a private conversation with GDM. There's no problem with "A versus B" questions during private conversations.

Thank you and I realize that, but I still don't see what's wrong with my questions - as I explained in post #2110.

I see they still haven't unlocked the whitelisting settings in the free version.

I'm not asking for them to give it all away for free. All of the other changes they made to the free version in 6.0.0 are acceptable as long as they unlock the whitelisting settings they way they were before that build. That's the one thing that makes the whole thing work.

I suggested this before. What would it take for SAP to have a sandbox for legitimate applications? Since the future development of sandboxie is uncertain. It's time for other security products to fill the vacuum.

I'd be fine with this being a paid pro feature only. And of course, the whitelisting, APEX and UAV should all still do their thing for sandboxed applications too. Meaning that if an unknown application is downloaded and run in the sandbox, it still gets blocked/quarantined.

There should also be options to make more than one sandbox and a forced sandboxing feature for applications and folders that the user selects. Auto-deleting rules should be a thing too. And the ability to choose the location of the folders would be nice.

How much ram does their integration of Avira use? Their integration of Clam is just awful about that.

Automatic sandbox of unknown files is a Comodo patent if I'm not wrong.
That's why any sandbox out there only allows user to manually run a file into the sandbox.
And if you want a manual sandbox, there are several viable alternatives to sandboxie, Shade and Re:HIPS for istance

I was talking about a system where S.A.P. would still block ALL unknown files and still alert the user to all known malware detections, or auto-quarantine detections if it's in silent mode. The sandbox I'm suggesting would be more like sandboxie, were the user would use it as another layer of protection and also as a way to wipe out any changes made by software while using said software at a moment's notice.

It would also serve to upstage sandboxie by allowing the user to make more than one container and allow the user to pick where the sandbox's folder will be too. And even allow the user to recover selected files from the container.

I think that's out of SAP scope, otherwise why don't ask for a web filter, a firewall or whatever?
    Core SAP features are:
    - Multiple Cloud AVs
    - AI-Powered Local AV
    - Application control & whitelist
So, let's make suggestions about how they can improve them :)

Oh, that M.L.A.I. detection is also in the cloud. It's not in the realtime scanning like the other databases, but APEX with the latest information examines everything submitted to the cloud from an untrusted file prompt.

    I had an Idea.

So before 6.0.0 It was advertised on SecureAPlus' website that premium users got a higher priority in the cloud scanning.

Is that still happening? If not then I was thinking that Lite version would have the lowest priority with cloud scanning, essentials would have higher priority scanning and pro would have the highest.

Of course the corporate version of the product should have and even higher priority in the cloud scanning if not a connection to a completely different set of servers, because businesses have to run fast and if the sysadmin at a business needs to figure out whether a file is safe or not in a hurry, it would be very helpful to be able to identify newly discovered malware in a hurry.

I know this is an old issue. I can kind of see how my response may have looked like a comparison.

I only meant to give a little instruction on how to set up a combo of VS and SAP.

Does SAP monitor dlls and drivers loaded in the system, or only exes?
