By way of background, I'm a devoted user of SB (currently 3.4) and don't subscribe to the auto-update feature. Usually I'll do a manual check for updates (from within SB) every couple of days -- I know typical interval between def updates is around 2 weeks these days, but I can also remember brief periods when JC was issuing them almost as often as a-v defs, sometimes even more than once a day.

Lately (the last week or so, I guess) I'm usually getting that "no updates available" thing almost instantly after I click, which is highly unusual for a dialup connection. Has JC recently upgraded to a much bigger/faster/more efficient server, or am I totally losing my sense of elapsed time? (Or, of course, maybe I've mysteriously acquired a dedicated connection to his server? ;) ).

Hosts file is normal (Win default, just the localhost entry), if that's relevant.

    Thanks and best,
    Mike

The updating setup has been upgraded (although more enhancements are planned), so that may be part of the reason.

Also, if you find it fast now, you should be very happy when the next version of SpywareBlaster arrives. :D More details soon! (You may also see a nice increase in the frequency of updates, with the new version release.)

    Best regards,
