I agree with Chris. Whenever there are major version upgrades, especially ones with lots of changes, I uninstall the old version, clean up leftover junk/keys, and defrag. Then get a nice fresh install of the new version. I think it has something to do with why I never have the problems others often report with new versions.

And I also agree with Page42... unless you have a test machine I wouldn't be in any hurry to rush this upgrade until it's matured a bit. Let the people with their VM's do the dirty work for ya first.

I'd hate to see him cease development due to financial constraints,as I'm sure would many others.

I have Sandboxie and Appguard and both working perfectly with each other until v3.74. My OS is Windows 7 x64.

I uninstalled the earlier v3.74 and installed the beta v4.01 and I am getting the following errors:

When Appguard is set to "Off"
Error: SBIE2204 Cannot start sandboxed service RpcSs (C0000005)

When Appguard is set to "High"
    Error: SBIE2335 Initialization failed for process firefox.exe [33 / 5]

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Best regards,

I ran this with Firefox 18 on Windows 8 x64 last night for several hours without any issues whatsoever. Just an FYI for anyone that is hesitant to try it.

In Sandboxie v4 all communication goes through Sandboxie Service.
Thats why you need to set sbiesvc.exe as memory guard exception in AppGuard. (Settings-Advanced)

    Hi SLE,

Tried it with ReadWrite permission and still doesn't work. Even with Appguard set to "Off" it doesn't work and gives different error message.

Have you ste the same exclusions for other sandboxie processes, too?
    (sandboxierpcss.exe; sandboxiedcomlaunch.exe; sandboxiecrypto.exe; sbiectrl.exe; start.exe)

    Hi SLE,

Yes, I have for first three (sandboxierpcss.exe; sandboxiedcomlaunch.exe; sandboxiecrypto.exe) as "Write" only. The fourth (sbiectrl.exe) as "ReadWrite" and nothing for the fifth (start.exe) one. This works perfect up to Sandboxie v3.76

For Sandboxie beta v4.01, I gave for every .exe the "ReadWrite", but still no joy.

Does Sandboxie v4.01 works with Appguard in your system?

BTW, my OS is Windows 7 x64.

    Best regards,

Yes. With the read/write exclusions mentioned above.

my sys: Win8x64, AppGuard, Sandboxie and no other third party security.

Before I added sbiesvc.exe for Version 4 I got the same error message as you (SBIE2335 Initialization failed)

Can you start other applications than firefox sandboxed?

I will try, as I have to uninstall v3.76, reboot and reinstall v4.01

Can you do an experiment for me on your system?

Delete all (sandboxierpcss.exe; sandboxiedcomlaunch.exe; sandboxiecrypto.exe; sbiectrl.exe; start.exe) from Advanced > Memory Guard. And, set your Sandboxie container to any other partition/drive beside the OS "C" drive.

Check to see if it works?

Try now and let me know before I unistall, reboot and install.

    Best regards,

    Dear SLE,

    Found the solutions:

    1. Your above suggestion.
    2. Disable Avast > Behavioral Shield. However, when opening Firefox, most of the time the Windows Explorer crashes.

Thanks to you, now it is working. I have posted the solutions in Sandboxie Forum and given you the credit for making the Sandboxie and Appguard to work.

Best not to rush him, one man business and it is critical it comes out "right"

Some vendors use "early" full releases and get "us" to debug. That is not happening here so I will be the LAST guy to rush him.

Cut them slack when he is ready he is ready, then proceed.

    Just my 1cent worth:D
