On Windows 10. Roughly 2 weeks ago Firefox and Sandboxie crashed and burned. Firefox refused to launch in neither default nor a new sandbox. Prior to roughly 2 weeks ago, everything was smooth sailing. Maybe the next Sandboxie iteration will fix this....(?)
Wondering if anyone has an idea as a workaround in the interim. As for the suggestion to "Maybe try to reinstall Firefox." Been there, done that to no avail.

@busy I'd be remiss by not thanking you for your prompt and thoughtful reply before I get a good night's sleep and subsequently follow through your advisement. Most likely I'll be forced to give it a shot or ditch the thought of sandboxing Firefox altogether.
Fat chance going forward that Mozzarella will fix the compatibility issue at their end or even care that Sandboxie is a real thing. C'est la vie.

Yes, I don't know what's causing it, but I doubt it's some other third party tool interfering. I rather think it's this specific Sandboxie version combined with Win 8.1, so I guess I will need to upgrade Sandboxie. I don't use anti-exploit on these machines, only Win Defender.

I will try it again, like I said, no matter what I do, Firefox keeps reminding me to update, even if I block it from making outbound connections. Also, I noticed that it's possible to run multiple versions of Firefox side by side (just like with Vivaldi). So I don't need Sandboxie for this.

The reason I stopped using Sandboxie as a browser protection tool, is because I prefer to use anti-exploit tools, and they are not compatible with Sandboxie. Also, Sandboxie gives a slight overhead on browser performance, especially with Vivaldi which is already quite heavy.

BTW, I totally forgot that not only am I a member of WSF for 20 years, it's also Sandboxie's 20th anniversary! I remember I discovered Sandboxie back in 2004, who would have thought we would still be using it after all of these years. I still use it mostly to quickly check out certain apps.
