I'm running the latest version of Sandboxie Classic, and it's working great with my new Windows 10 upgrade. The only quirk I can't smooth out is how it recovers files. I have been using the app for years and bought a lifetime license back when it was with the other company. Normally, I could add several folders to the quick recovery list, and have immediate recovery checked. If I would download a file, I would recover it as soon as it was done downloading. When I closed the browser, the sandbox would just clear normally. No muss, no fuss. But now when I recover the file, I close the browser and it gives me a second recover option again. As if it doesn't realize I already got the file. I tried clearing the folders in the quick recovery list, but that breaks the recovery option altogether. Thoughts on how to tweak this to get it acting like it did before?
Here's how I have mine setup. I'm using the latest version Sandboxie Classic 5.55.7 (64-bit) on Windows 10 21h2 (64-bit). I choose the folders I use for downloaded files. I leave this unchecked because I want my downloaded files to remain sandboxed until I'm ready to manually recover them to the folders I selected above. I check the first box which deletes all contents in Sandboxie when I close the last opened app that's sandoxed. If I downloaded a file and didn't manually or enable quick recovery above, then I'll get a popup window when I close the last app sandboxed letting me manually recover the file before deleting the contents of Sandboxie. This might be the setting that's causing the issue. If you uncheck the first box, then no contents will be deleted including files when you close all sandboxed apps. The second box never deletes the sandboxie contents automatically or manually.
To manually recover, just right-click the following: To manually delete the contents, do the following:
@johnny_castle are you using the plus or the classic version? I tryed and could not reproduce the issue, as you describe it, it looks to be an issue where the list of to recovered files fails to be cleared on imminet recovery and it striggered again on close. But i tested this scenario and for me everything worked fine. Could you may be make a video of the issue and attach your sandboxie.ini

I would love to create a video, but it seems to be an internment problem that does not happen every time. Just like sometimes the sandbox won't delete itself right away and hangs, even though I have told it to kill Edge in the lingering programs menu. So I'm not sure how much of this is how it interacts with my system, and how much is the Sandbox itself. But my INI is below (ignore where it says "Windows Seven" as that is just an older username). I'm on Windows 10 with the latest version of Classic Sandboxie. Code: # # Sandboxie-Plus configuration file # [GlobalSettings] Template=ObjectDock Template=BitDefenderInternetSecurity Template=LogitechSetPoint Template=WindowsRasMan Template=WindowsLive Template=AdobeAcrobatReader Template=VirtualDesktopManager Template=Microsoft_MSMQ Template=OfficeLicensing [DefaultBox] ConfigLevel=9 BlockNetworkFiles=y Template=Office_Outlook Template=Chrome_Force Template=IExplore_Force Template=Edge_Phishing_DirectAccess Template=Firefox_Force Template=Edge_Force Template=OpenSmartCard Template=OpenBluetooth Template=SkipHook Template=FileCopy Template=qWave Template=BlockPorts Template=LingerPrograms Template=Chrome_Phishing_DirectAccess Template=Firefox_Phishing_DirectAccess Template=AutoRecoverIgnore BorderColor=#00FFFF,off,6 Enabled=y BoxNameTitle=- AutoRecover=y AutoDelete=y NeverDelete=n ForceFolder=C:\Users\Windows Seven\Downloads ForceProcess=outlook.exe OpenFilePath=%Personal%\Outlook Files\ LingerProcess=firefox.exe LingerProcess=msedge.exe LingerProcess=iexplore.exe LingerProcess=chrome.exe RecoverFolder=%{374DE290-123F-4565-9164-39C4925E467B}% RecoverFolder=%Desktop% [UserSettings_4B2E054D] SbieCtrl_UserName=windows_seven SbieCtrl_BoxExpandedView=DefaultBox SbieCtrl_NextUpdateCheck=-1 SbieCtrl_UpdateCheckNotify=y SbieCtrl_WindowCoords=640,117,1234,632 SbieCtrl_ActiveView=40021 SbieCtrl_AutoApplySettings=n SbieCtrl_HideWindowNotify=n SbieCtrl_ProcessViewColumnWidths=250,70,300 SbieCtrl_ExplorerWarn=n
I have that issue as well and it is also intermittent. Not a huge problem, but it does cause me to reverify that I really got the file.
Ah, well that is certainly enough of us (probably more out there) to verify this is a lingering bug. I'll watch here to see if a solution is found soon.
Is that only the classic UI or also with the plus UI? and if you verify that you have the file, is there a dupliate left at the old location?
Not sure what you mean by the first part of that, all I know is I did a fresh install of Sandboxie Classic from scratch. Also, yes, there does appear to be a duplicate. I recover the file down to my HDD outside the sandbox with immediate invocation, but then the app pulls up the recovery box again a second time. If you decline to recover this, it deletes it and everything else in the Sandbox. So it's repeating behavior to no useable end sometimes.
Ok but that's good to know, than the issue is with the moving of the file itself, not with the checking/notifying code. That pinpoints the issue.
I can verify everything johnny_castle says, except to add that with me it happens with both classic and plus versions.
Since we know this is a fixable thing, I'm going to bookmark this and circle back. If you come up with a solution for this in a patch or future update (or just something I can change in my settings now), please post it here. So I can ensure I find the solution. Thanks so much and thanks for supporting one of my go-to apps for so long!
This looks like the issue is with the process that created those files keeping a handle open past the recovery process, resulting in the file not being deleted. So my test with creating files form console will not be affected. Please tell me with what applications creating files the problem appears? May be firefox downloads? what else? Cheers David
For me, the downloads can range from anything from .rar files to video files. There doesn't seem to be any particular pattern or file type.
Latest Sandboxie Classic Windows 11 suddenly stopped working. Error message >> The application has failed to start because it's side by side configuration is incorrect. I did a clean reinstalled. Error remained. How can I fix this? s side by side configuration
I can confirm what n8chavez said erlier. For me, it can be images, pdfs, anything. And it's not just Firefox. I use Edge. Sorry if that opens a can of worms
